Since I can't find any rims that I like that are in my price range, I have decided reluctantly to keep the factory 16's and get some wider rubber. I am most likely going to get 225/50/16 or whatever. What do you think of this combo? I'm not sure on the wall height. Does it need to be 45 to keep the same height as stock?

whats your price rang for rims (just curious)

I would keeep your stock ones, I think they look nice and are a suitable size for the 240. Spend the money on nice tires, they will improve performace more than any rims will.

I would get the Toyo Proxes T1-S in a 225/50/16 (very close to same OD as stock, probaly the same depending on stock tire)

The concept you're speaking of is often called plus-zero sizing, since you're not changing wheel diameter, just adding a wider tire with nearly identical overall tire diameter. Excellent idea, and the widthwise fitment won't be an issue as long as you stay close to stock. Fear not, there are still many good sticky tire choices available in near stock sizes. That being said, what is your stock tire size? What size are you using now?

Consider that (using basic math here) the 205/55-16 has an overall diameter of 24.88"

The 225/50-16 has an OD of 24.86"...... perfect for maintaining factory OD, and the tire's contact patch shouldn't be compromised much, if at all.

phil (thats right isn't it?), what do you mean by what is YOUR stock tire size?

The stock size for the S14 SE is 205/55/16.

Cars that are nearly a decade old and have seen a few different owners will often end up with a different size than factory spec. Did my wording confuse you? Because I thought I had spelled out in detail that a 225/50-16 would have nearly identical OD to the factory 205/55-16.

Oh I see, you mean the current size on the car by stock size?

Yes I know that they would be the same size, I got it straight from the toyo website, but its also easy to prove it with some simple calculations and with a script in the FAQ.

go to the 240sx clasified ads and search the wheels.

I bought perfect Volk wheels with new yokahamas for $750. This was an awesome deal for goods that are like new.

Don't get hung up on buying new

Thanks for the helpful replies. I'll still consider this, but I have finally found some pretty good looking rims that aren't very pricey, have the perfect offset, and are 8" wide. I wanted at least 7.5" if I was going w/ aftermarket wheels, so these seem to be the ones I will end up getting. Probably will wrap these with Kumho Ecsta's (712's or MX, haven't decided).

blah to kumho. get AVS sports, or at least the MX... the 712 hasnt made a single favorable impression with me(other than its price) yet.

you should seriously check into the es-100. I've put that tire on many, many carS(including a SL600 recently) and have heard only good things about them.-chet

I've heard es-100's were good from most people, but i've heard more bad things from them than the 712's.

All the es100's I see on tirerack are for high performance summer applications. There are other AVS's, but which one to pick? I hate sounding like a complete moron, but I am when it comes to this stuff. I just want some good, not too expensive tires that will perform well in all weather.

The ES100 would be nice for three season use. The AVS DB S2 would be best for year round use when you have occasional snow and ice.

I have AVS dBs, and I am very satisfied with them. They don't wear fast at all (as someone suggested to me when I bought them).

Thanks for the opinions. I'll have to think it through. My friend sugested just get a nice summer tire or something to have on the car in all the seasons but winter, and put my stock rims back on for winter. I hadn't thought of that, so I may end up doing so.
