anybody else see this? on Sportscenter, Dan Patrick was interviewing that idiot that lost the league championship for the Cubs when he interfered with the ball on a play that could have been a catch and a final out for that inning, but instead was a home run that was part of a 8 run scoring inning.

anyway, he'd asked the guy all these questions, and the guy is on the phone from an undisclosed location because everyone wants to kill him, and he goes, "Well, I guess you're in exile now, it's not safe to be outside..."

then the guy goes, "Why don't you sample some of Howard Stern's buttcheese?" and hangs up.

then dan patrick looks down, thinking of what to say, the cameramen are laughing, and dan goes "well, that wasn't exactly what we were asking for.. We'll be right back."

Thats roughly what happened, i wasn't paying full attention until the buttcheese comment... that's classic television.

I don't think the whole game was lost due to his one mistake!!!God people get stupid with this stuff...

Let me just drop my .02.. I don't watch baselball.. nor do I know much about the game..

after the whole incident, i read upon it and saw the pictures and replay's over and over... here is what I came up with..

It was a foul ball for god sakes.. how could that be a home run if it was in foul territory???

and How the hell did that make the cubs give away 8 runs??? I'm sorry but if you want to blame any one, blame the team.. The poor guy cought a foul ball..

who is to say that even if let's just say that cubs would have caught that ball and got an out... do you think they would have won???I don't... I think they still would have lost...

IF that ball was a homerun hit and was caught byt he fan and was the deciding factor for win... i.e.... they won by one run.. then he is to blame but for a foul ball and they lost by 8 runs!!!

He just ended up being the scape goat... that's all.. I feel really sorry for him.. if you take a look at the rplay and pictures you will see that every fan in that area was trying to get the damn ball... just like they do in every game... he didn't do anything different..

yeah. Sorry, he wasn't catching a home run, but if someone catches a foul ball its an out. There were already 2 outs. this would have led to the end of the inning, cubs batting again. Instead, the guy got to hit again, and the scoring began.

the thing i didnt believe was that he said "Sample howard stern's buttcheese." What the hell kind of response is that?

A response that gets you some money from Howard Stern maybe?

If he's gonna say something, it should have been more interesting than that...like "how about you and the rest of the reports go off and committ some ritualistic suicide"...anything would have been funnier than that line (or mine).

oh no. another pathetic cubs fan that thinks the game was lost because of that one fan. the game was lost because the cubs blew it. sorry bro, this isnt their year. and when you give up 8 runs in one inning you dont deserve a chance in the world series.

i dont even watch baseball much. i live in charlotte and used to live in baltimore, i was discouraged from liking baseball after ripken got out of it. yeah, they folded, but from a theoretical standpoint, none of those runs would have been scored if the guy had been able to catch it. and because of this, everyone in chicago uses him as a scapegoat.

The Cubs lost because they freaking CHOKED.

If they would have won, would anyone care about that guy? Hell no. But instead, he's a scapegoat for the reason the Cubs didn't go to the World Series... hell, people say the Cubs would have WON if it weren't for that guy. Whatever. The Cubs choked. They had plenty more chances than just that one to seal up the series and never did.

It wasn't Bababooey. He's the horse-toothed producer of the show. It was "Captain Janks", who is an obsessed Stern fan from Philly that crank calls news shows and records them. Stern puts him on almost weekly to show how TV news shows never check their sources by allowing crank like Janks to get on the air.Amazing stuff, but he's not the best Stern crank caller, just the most prolific. The best Stern crank caller was a guy that got thru to Peter Jennings during the OJ slow mo chase, pretending OJ's neighbor and speaking in a bad KingFish impresseion ("now lookie here') I cringed.

The Cubs suck. They were lucky to have gotten that far and no matter how much the White Sox suck, they will ALWAYS be cooler than the damned Cubs.

As for the guy that caught that ball, hell, there were a dozen other people that were going for it too. The people that are badmouthing this guy need to shut the **** up and get a life. They should watch a real sport, like football...

Werd. I think the local Chicago media went way too far with this guy. His name, hometown, what he does for a living, etc all got published, so moronic Cubbie fans can harass him at home and at work. Not all Cubbie fans are morons, just the ones who are going after this guy. It's amazing they're are venting at that poor sap instead of the spoiled millionaire corked bat swinging ballplayers who actually lost the game.

But I think if baseball had a 16 game season like football instead of 162, it would become a far more interesting sport to watch. Yankee-Red Sox game 7 was a classic.

i feel bad for the guy, everybody focuses on that one play in the game but if you were watching thre game the very next play was a perfect double pplay ball that was fumbled by the shortstop and that would have ended the inning. if its anyones fault i think they should blame it on Alex Gonzalez the shortstop. regardless its too late in the season to make stupid errors and the Marlins just capitalized on the situation. i love the Marlins and they have been the underdog in every series they have played and have come out on top, this team doesn't choke like all the other teams they have played. i dont care what anyone says they have a good chance of winning the world series GO MARLINS

The other day Conan Obrien was doing that bit where they see what a baby between two people would look like. The last one they did was a combination of the two most hated people: Saddam and Bin Laden. The result? The Cubs fan who tried to catch the ball.

Poor guy, everyone in Chicago hates his guts... he's had to go into hiding for crying out loud!

last night on Leno they had the "Idiot for a Day" segment, and the last guy was talking about how he was at a Blue Jays game and if he caught 3 balls in the stands, everyone in the stadium would get free pizza. He dropped two.

Leno goes, well, everyone deserves a second chance, so if you can do it now, we'll give everyone a slice of pizza. The guy gets a glove, and just as the ball comes forward, this guy in a green shirt and a cubs hat bobbles the ball.
