I thinks its the whole psychology of it.because you suddenly graduated fro a young punk to someone who will fight for USA.
I think some of the cops bias toward us is understandable and not unreasonable.
Its not consistent either though and can't alwasy be relied on.
Especially around large bases where lots of young soldiers often get into trouble, there military ID can be a liabilty.
In some locations the local sherrifs office may have even had a jurisdiction disagreemnt which will actually make 'em harder on military.
(Example Camp Ripley Minnesota: The local sherrifs dept had tried to take advantage of the artifically low posted speedlimits on a military post to make money for the county.
The MP's kicked them off post with extreme prejudice, but since then a military ID will get you into a LOT of trouble outside of post when stopped by the local PD)
But when you are in an some areas where the Police is tired of local civilian punks, they consider you an automatic good guy if military.
I once got off with a wanring when driving from NYC on christamas day with my class A uniform hanging in window coming home from holiday leave.Admittedly road and visibilty conditions where perfect..., but I was clocked 89 in a 55....
On the other hand a member of my unit was stopped and ticketed for going 70 in a 55 where flow of traffic all around us was 67-72 mph I was w/ him).He even got an attitude from the cop , even tho the driver (a MAJOR in an antiterrorist unit!) was extremly polite and had everything ready right away.
So you get all kinds...
Fred...
