Welcome to NICO!

Did you try pressing the brake pedal while you move the lever?
Also, check around the area to see if a button isn't being pressed that would normally be pressed while normally moving the brake pedal.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try the above recommendation but no results.

Jack up the car and look for the linkage that comes from the center of the car to the selector switch on the actual transmission case. If the G has one, it'll look like this:

or this

It may be located on the sides of the transmission or the top of the bell housing- I'm not too familiar with the G transmission.

More likely a failed shift lock solenoid. I've replaced 3 this year for customers. Pop the shift lock cap on the shift selector and push the button down inside it with a flap screw driver. If it'll move you at least can drive it til you can get the issue diagnosed.

Thats a pretty detailed post. Remember there is also a relay in A/T shifter that allows you to shift from park when the brake is pressed. Listen for a clicking noise from the shifter when pressing the brake. Its usually the first thing to go when this happens.

But the short answer is, shoulda got the 6speed. :yesnod

Check brake switch first, then shift lock solenoid.
