So my car was making the infamous timing chain rattle...I was taking a look at the tensioner and when I was removing it, I heard it click like it extended out a little...I have ordered a new tensioner but it just hasnt gotten here...I reattached the tensioner and started the car, for about 3 seconds it made the most godawful grinding/rattling noise ever...and then it went away, along with the original timing chain rattle...I let it idle for a minute to see if the rattle or grinding came back...it didnt, so Im stoked right...WRONG!!

I blipped the throttle and it sounded great until the idle settled , around 900 rpm the noise comes back...but doesnt happen above or below that certain rpm...do not understand...IU had to drive it home from the shop but wont drive it again until I get some knowledge or suggestions...thanks and any input would be great...

Yeah im pretty sure you have to depress the tensioner all the way down. Then after you install it you take a big socket to the crank and turn it conterclockwise untill you hear the click noise. Then you you have have good tension. Maybe the chian has to much slack and is slapping. Also while you have it out it a good idea to relace it with a new gasket. The older gaskets were kinda crappy and the made a new style tensioner gasket thats better. Hope it helps. PS and yes there is a little clip that releases the tensioner to full tension. You can either realease the tensioner by flipping the switch with a screw driver though the head. or you canh do what i told you earler with e the crank. Makes it easier cuz you don't have to pull the valve cover.

I checked the tension on the chain not to long ago, and it was within spec...I think that tensioner is gunked up or just a little tired...Im just not gonna drive it till I get the new tensioner...I did read about the clip and didnt think about it till after the fact...I dont really understand what you are saying but I kinda get it...more info if any more is available

Thanks rc1honda...lates
