Ok guys. I finished my research. I called John Zbinden at Apple Valley Ford and he stated that every single specification on Ford vehicials is measured at the flywheel.

Why the fu*k do you have to repeat your self THREE TIMES? STFU already. OF COURSE it's at the flywheel you silly person.

Racing from a roll is retarded. Straight line racing does prove how clean and strong your powerband is, it also shows how torque is made and how well you are geared for that kind of power, so don't go around saying asinine sh*t like "it doesn't prove anything". You need a few more seasons around before you can walk around with your nuts out like that buddy.

Ford's been underrating the horsepower figures on their motors since the 60's....

hell, when the S195 Mustangs came out, I remember a guy running high 11's in one with an xpipe, slicks and a few other bolt ons...

I don't know what's so unbelievable about the DOHC V6 in the new car hitting more than 300 at the wheels, s***, the 370Z can or is awfully close.

Who were you refering to here? Yes I repeated myself 3 times so you might be talking about me, but other than that you just said every point I was trying to make...

Yes I get that. I wasn't really arguing that fact. I was saying the motors are rated at the CRANK and not the WHEELS. In the video (if anyone watched it) he implys that 308rwhp is close to 305hp so that supports Fords claim that it is in fact 305hp. He did not say anything like "And the amazing dyno results show even more then the claimed 305hp!"

This is the ONE thing I was looking at...
305hp DOES NOT = 308rwhp.
305hp = closer to 260rwhp.

I said s*** because he used a dyno to validate crank hp. Basicly because they didn't show the computer I think he was exagerating the whp number. I never once said I thought the V6 was slow. As I said earlier, I think it is very fast and I am considering getting one.
I was attacking the video...not the car...

Me-Yea you are right. A race from a roll is not an accurate measure of car performance.
(thats called sarcasm)

Me-So my friends 2010 GT rated at 315hp only made 325rwhp after intake, exhaust, straight pipe headers and cams? All that stuff only gave him 10hp?
(This implies that the hp rating is at the crank and not at the wheels)

Me-
I spend a ton of time on Mustang forums and unless someone can show me that they measure hp at the wheels and not the crank, I think you guys are on crack. Do you know how many times I have seen the question "how can I get 300rwhp?" in the Mustang forums? IF MUSTANGS ARE RATED AT OVER 300HP WHY WOULD THEY NEED TO GET THERE? Do Mustang owners not know anything about their cars? Are they using some kind of dyno we have never heard of?

Me-Hey guys we need to tell all the guys at the strip to stop racing. Racing in a straight line tells us nothing. Pull your cars off the strip and go find a dyno. Maybe we should let the experts know that when they test 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times they need to be on curves or on a dyno.
(This is sarcasm again)

Jeeze why is this such an issue? I totally get what the OP is saying, and totally did from the very first post.

OP: The only thing I can think of is that they are using some sort of crazy correction factor to find crank HP from a measured rwhp.

BUT, drivelines ARE becoming much more efficient. You guys might remember this very same conversation about the GTR. Nobody could believe the car was putting down the power it was, when in reality, Nissan/BorgWarner had developed one of the most efficient AWD systems ever made.

2011 Mustang V6...motor rated at 305hp...to verify they put it on a dynojet. 308rwhp...bullsh*t. There's no way that it made almost as much hp to the wheels than a 2010 GT's motor is rated at.
A Dynajet or Dynapaks will rate a lot higher than a Mustang dyno. A Mustang dyno, properly loaded will be as close to pavement as you can get. I would like to see what that thing puts down on a properly calibrated Mustang Dyno. I put down 305 AWHP on a Mustang, and 342 AWHP on a Dynajet, both load rated the same.

You can tweak the settings of a dyno, and change the load easily, this will change the HP numbers dramatically.

I'll put my 305 AWHP Subie up, title for title, against a Mustang that is putting down 308 RWHP on a Dynajet.

Heh I am considering it. In the next year or 2 I am getting a new car. My wife is pregnant and being in Minnesota it may not be the best option but it does have 2 of the highest things on my list...Performance and gas miliage. Nothing will floor my friend more than his GT getting beat by a V6.
I will get my wife get the Fusion or Subaru or something.

Nice stats by the way. I bet that car is a beast.

She does alright, actually, it is a blast to drive. My favorite car yet. 13.01 @ 107 in the 1/4.

A large handful of my friends are running built engines with 30R or 35R turbos, and putting down way better numbers/times. However I have very little into the performance, so 305 HP for $1500 is a lot better than 550 HP for $30k, IMHO.

You all can complain about where the HP but its 0-60 time was still decently quick.

I still don't see the issue....

Ford loves to under rate cars, have forever.

that 305 hp number is probably from the worst engine they've dyno'd to date. After the '99 Cobra fiasco, they ain't f***' around.
