i am infact imcompetant and will not work on my car any longer, this is why:

finally got the tool i needed to turn the piston back into the caliper on the rear brakes so i can put the new pads in, once i got the brake, turned out to only be a 20 minute job, great! this was cool, rotor came off easy with a big *** hammer (it was ****ed anyway) so i did all that, got the wheels on, took it for a drive around the sub for 20 minutes to make sure brakes and everything are good, they seam great! so i take the car out onto 24 mile road... feels good to be int he car again so im tooling along at aroudn 50... goign towards a green light where i need to make my left turn, so i start going into the left turn lane, i go to push the brake pedal down, it goes all the way to the floor, so im thinking, oh **** im gonna die... i look over and the SUV that was behind me accelerated and was next to me now so i could get back into the lane going straight, i try pumping, no workie, so i try to take the turn going way too fast, the back end slides out and i cant control it and i hit a 10 inch tall curb nearly completely sideways, nailed it with the front passenger side wheel.

this is NOT good, control arm is bent, tie rod is bent about a 60 degree angle, and the wheel is now an oval and who knows what else is ****ed up... im going to take it in somewhere to see if the frame is bent or something and get a list of all the crap i need to replace...

still have no idea what went wrong with the brakes, they seam fine again, but i obviously ****ed up somehow.

first... tried pliars... didnt work, niether did vice grips, so i elected to buy the tool... second, didnt want to bother with finding a bolt that would thread into it when i can bang on it with a hammer that was right next to me... worked perfectly fine... third, i never thought about the parking brake but id imagine that it woudl have made the situation even worse since the turn lane was short and would have been on the parking brake around the turn to slow down enough... fourth, couldnt exactly help taking the turn way too fast....

Why couldnt you pull up the E-Brake to slow down? It would at least have got you to a safe speed so you can make the turn. As long as you did NOT make the truck with the ebrake up. Just like 3-4 clicks would have done good as long as the back tires don't lock up (they lock up easy).

well in a paniced situation like ur brakes not working when every other one of the 10,000,000 times u press ur brake pedal, i dont blame him for not thinking of ebrakeits easy to say oh u should have pulled the ebrake now, but in his situation...and dont start with should ofs. i was gonna say he SHOULD HAVE dont shifted, but buddy just smashed his ridedont rub it in his face with should ofs...im sure he's alreayd beating himself up

i did downshift, but didnt match revs well enough and it broke the rear tires loose when i let the clutch go, thats what sent me sideways, you guys dont understand that by the time i realized the brakes were gone i was a split second away from the turn, i was already planning on taking the turn somewhat fast as the light was abotu to turn yellow..., i heal toed but it ****ed up when the pedla went all the way down

well that sucks man. live and learn. and yes by the discription you've told you sound like you were going into the turn pretty fast. a little track time will help you react a little more calmly next time. if you had time to look and see the (damn) SUV speed up next to you, you had enough time to ease up the handbrake to slow to a safe entry speed. you panicked. nothing wrong with that. just be grateful that there weren't people on that sidewalk, or cars across the intersection.

K-Car "I've been in his situation, twice." i think your having too much fun with brake failure.:D
