I blew up my old turbo ford probe because I was modding it and racing it.

so I decided to get a responsible car worthy of a grad student getting an MBA. No speed, no excitement, just luxury.

Well, guess what! the 91 q45 was the freaking wrong car. This car is so freaking powerful it seems like I am taking a darn drug( I dont really know what being high feels like since I have never tried, but the q45 gets me high)

slam it in low, and floor it. THe sound coming from the engine is magic, and the acceleration is amazing. Faster than my probe.

Hey, I am not complaining. Not till I blow my transmission and engine though.

I should have bought a mazda 929

:D :D

You wont blow your transmission anytime soon, if you do this:

-Flush and pan drop w/ new filter, flush with a full syn ATF like MOBIL1,Redline, AMSOIL.-Repeat the above every 15,000 miles or 18 months whichever comes first.-Put in a transmission cooler (cheap)

I have done the above and my trannies see a lot of abuse.

Dennis aka Q45tech has done the above and his trannies see hard use like mine and his last one was still fine after 174,000 miles.

Fred....:)

Wait till you check out the top end. These cars handle 100+mph like a run to the corner store. I have 6 cylinders in my J30t and factory limited to 130. Your's can do considerably more. 150+!

One more thing. The Q afficianados here love their Qs. Be prepared for a load of tips on how to keep your baby running. There is one potentially fatal flaw on the early Qs (which your's is) that you will be made aware of. I'll leave it to the Q meisters to tell you about it.

vimy,

I know the timing chain guides need doing. I was trying to get away from it but I cant, so I am going to set the money aside for it and hopefully get it done before christmas.

yeah, I am still going to TRY to act responsible in this car, but giving me so much power is like putting candy before a kid and asking him not to touch it. Impossible.

Aside from a plastic piece getting caught and derailing the chain from the sprocket, the chains will jump if there is slack induced into them. I imagine this would happen when you let off the gas suddenly. I don't see a risk with stomping on the pedal, as long as you ease off it slowly.

It's such a joy to get around a group of kids in their econo-ricers (or the V6 'Stang crowd) and throw down a big, fat, juicy, a$$-end-hanging-out burnout...

They're like, "That old guy is crazy!"

I should have noticed that you have earned your "intake..." et al. There's no way that a new early Q owner could go more than one post without hearing about the chain guides. ;)

Ditto re the candy.

And the drug is additive, despite its side effects (repair costs).

For me it's a love/hate relationship, but mostly love. :cuddle

You might as well start preparing to be disappointed when you have to get your next car... Very few new cars match the style and feel of the original Q.

Congrats on the "new" Q - quite a piece of machinery! Also look out for worn upper links in the front suspension and fuel injectors. You may opt to bite the bullet when one of your injectors goes and have all 8 done. Pulling the Plenum is co$tly - I've had two injectors go out on me - about 8 months apart.

I'm sure like the rest of us as the miles go buy you'll really come to appreciate all the refinement this car has to offer. I love even the just the "feel" of how it moves down the road.

Maybe your next purchase should be a radar detector?

You might also want to look into getting the 1st gear start transmission computer. The 2nd gear start is the ONLY thing I don't like about our 92 - well that and lack of factory cup holders!

Enjoy the ride!

All this talk is making me want to dump my MBZ 400e!

I've owned a couple 929s. Peppy RWD V6, fun semi-lux car. In many ways like the J30. Even styling is similar if you get the last generation.
