I got the full $4,500 dollars by turning in my 92 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible. kinda "Automotive Blasphemy" to crush that car, but it was more than i could get for it any other way. but i love my Cube! Curious if anyone else has a similar story...

yep... 1992 Infiniti Q45 clunkered for a cube. I agree about the "automotive blasphemy" comment. I was even flamed a bit on NICOCLUB... But my reply was... If "you" want to save her... Give me $4500.00 for her... I couldn't pass up $4500.00 for a car worth less than $1000.00 in the used car market.

i can totally relate,... i had several people give me hell about it, but no one stepped up with the cash. i'd of even taken a slight hit if some mustang enthusiast would have stepped up with 4,000 dollars or something, but i couldnt have gotten 2,500 for it in the condition it was in,... it looked good, but it needed EVERYTHING, it ran pretty good but thats about it..... at least that's how i justify it. but i'm such a car guy that i literally lost sleep over it, and damn near cried when i turned the key off for the last time, like i was putting my dog to sleep or something. lol

I traded in my 97 Q45t for only $3500 because I got manual instead of CVT.For manual, I believe the combined MPG is around 26 but I need 28.

BTW, I traded in my car on July 11th.

"traded" in '98 MPV with 175K miles needing a tranny rebuild. If the Cube ends up being half as good as the MPV was I will be happy. Of course the Cube looks a hell of lot cooler...

Traded in a 93' Mercury villager with around 140k and got the full 4.5k . I got the 1.8SL Cube with chrome grille and the window visors thing. It was like 13k after cash for clunkers.

jodiaz, i had to comment how funny it was that you put "traded" in quotes, so true, but i think it is a little more reality than most people in this thread can handle, especially me... i didnt put my car to sleep, i friggin killed it, unmercifully, waaahhhh

BTW. I've heard we need to pay tax on the money we recieved from CARS program.

That sucks since we used the money on a new car to help out the economy NOT for personal reason.

I was the last person to take advantage of the cash for clunkers program at the dealership I bought my car at...Turned in my husband's C1500 which we bought for $1400 on ebay..not a bad deal... Its radiator blew up on the way down to trade it it..took us an hour and a half to make a 20 min. trip with the truck peeing all over the highway.....when we pulled into the dealership the truck just puttered out and then steam poured out from the hood--very dramatic. hehehehe

Wow! I thought your trade-in needs to be in driveable condition. Guess the dealer was desperate to make the deal.

Congrats!!!

They say it has to be drivable, not perfect...LOL

Unfortunately I wasn't able to jump on the "Cash for Clunkers" deal. The only car I have that's eligible is my 64 Corvair Monza Coupe. There was no way I could ever send such a nice car to the crusher. - Dan

miata007:i did a little research on the irs.gov site and it said there are no federal taxes on the cash for clunkers deal, but the state taxes may vary from state to state. here in louisiana, not only do i have no state taxes on the 4500 dollar incentive, but i can actually list the 4500 as trade in value, and pay no taxes on that amount of the car purchase! but thats here in LA. the first time in my life that living in Lousyana was to my ADVANTAGE...

square1: i think the oldest eligible model year for Cash For Clunkers was 1984.which would have spared your Corvair anyway.i'm glad you wouldn't have done it anyway, cause i'm a Corvair buff as well, and we need to keep as many of those running as we can, cause there arent many left...

89 Chevy 1500, paint falling off, rusted out rockers, headliner falling down, setting up in the back 40 for over a year, had to cut the weeds down to get to her, had mice living under the seat, had to tow it to my mechanic, the fuel pump was gunked from the old gas ($20 to fix). Kept it plated and insured just in case I needed to haul something.Love my Cube! Just put 16's and wheels on her along with a bra and window shades.

i dont own one , but help a buddy of mine keep his 2 running (a monza coupe and another spyder convertible)

i am a Aircooler VW guy for many years and corvairs arent far off, at least form a repair standpoint, but that fan belt thing is a bit scary!

not a lot of unusual cars in louisiana, so we old car guys of many different brands kinda band together to help each other out,.. kinda cool in a way.

but i think i'll leave the major repair side of my cube to the dealership.

I traded in my perfectly good running driving, 1987 F-150 Long bed. Which was my daily commuter at 40 miles a day, 12-14 mpg. My truck will be missed especially since i use it to haul all the time, for camping and other reasons... I do love my cube though... I was Gonna go with a versa, but the Krom edition cube was too appealing. For what i payed for the Krom cube i could have got a spec'd out performance sentra! I miss my truck but Barack and his buds saw fit to give me $4500 for a $1000 truck. Who can pass that up? I'm not even a Barack supporter! lol. Thanks for the $4500!!!!

I traded in a 94 Ford Explorer Limited..... can't say I miss that Jalopy. Also at the same time, mom traded in a 99 Ford Windstar for a Versa. We both got the full 4500. I'm glad both of those piles are gone.
