I will tell you this: I don't get sad very often. The thought of actually selling the Q makes me sad. I LOVE that car. I'm always telling people how perfect it is for me. The LS is not a worthy successor. It's the best of the unworthy, and I'll spend every minute in it comparing it to the Q. But the Q's trans, which I thought was reliable as it was rebuilt just before I bought it, decided it should die, and I don't have thousands laying around. The car's only worth a few thousand anyway. Realistically, I needed to buy a new, dependable car and say goodbye to the Q. I can at least be happy with the fact that it'll end up with another Q enthusiast. But I won't get to drive it anymore, which effing sucks. Anyone who has driven that car knows it's a unique beast. I will miss my unique beast.

So RSwicki's car is dead?

I like the LS, although the interior is rather pedestrian. Good chassis. The Jaguar S type upgrade is worth the difference for the improvements in power, handling, and especially interior.

Neither is a G50, though.

It would be sweet if someone from NICO ended up with it. You night get a chance to drive it again.

It's not dead, just down for the count. Someone else can easily bring it back to life.

I really can't stand the S-type styling, though. The fact that Hyundai copied it so well hasn't helped it age gracefully, either.

But yes, neither is a G50. I can't believe they have open differentials. I'm going to have to fix that as well, I guess.

I completely empathize. When I sold my first Q, the green 92, I was genuinely upset. And like you, I knew it was impractical to keep it as my main vehicle so I put it in the hands of a NICO member.

Last I heard he sold it to another NICO member who is still driving it around California with a recently rebuilt transmission and a body kit. I have the VIN saved somewhere so I can carfax it once in a while and see whats new.

However, my second Q45, while it was vastly superior in terms of condition and maintenance history, still couldn't replace the first one. I loved that particular green 1992 Q45 for whatever reason, and I haven't felt that attached to a car ever since. This old Seville is quietly earning my respect though.

What did that thing have, 210hp 460? Ha

Mark8's are cool, and to a lesser extent , depending on taste, Mark7's. Hell, all the Mark's are kind of cool. The 7/8 are still aging cars nowadays. I remember being 15 riding in my friends 290hp Mark8 LSC, it felt so blindingly fast at the time. Good luck finding a pristine one, though.

nah, it was made in the 60's.

375hp and a boatload of torque in that bad boy.

I have a dream. It's to one day have a triple black MKIII with an 8 valve Cummins turbo and an Allison transmission in it.

not stock of course.

it'll be blowing 7 kinds of smoke.

The Continental MKIII is one of my favorite cars ever. Absolutely spectacular.

A friend of mine had a MKVI when I was in high school. I didn't like it as much as my DeVille.

Would have been a terribly unfair ending for a great car.

Exactly. I'd rather take a complete loss on the car and GIVE it away than let it get crushed.

What mods did you have?

To be making that at the wheels you would be looking at 350hp at the crank.

Also, the Q was actually closer to 300/300 at the crank. Nissan underrated the engine to avoid the increased penalties that were put in place by the Japanese government

Yes, that's right. 350 was my guess as well. Might even be a little conservative as far as powertrain losses for an automatic car, but that's the number I've been using.

Headers/full exhaust, NICO ECU, 4.08.

Dyno sheets for the car (from previous-previous owner):

Let me put it this way: I have left clouds of smoke behind me accidentally while leaving stoplights in dry weather.

That was for early models, 90 and 91. By 94 the power rating was accurate, but a modestly modified 94 could easily equal a stock 90.
