w00t!

I just bought a a white 1996 240sx 5spd with 97,000 miles! The car is beautiful, just repainted, pulls strong, etc. It's not the SE, but for $4000 I am not complaining! I now have about $2000 I can stick into it if I so choose, so we'll see what comes (LSD, fog lights, intake all planned... already has exhaust and some cheap rims).

The only real trouble with this car is that it is salvaged and the airbags blew. Thus there is a nice looking carpet on the dash and the front bumper/hood/headlight were replaced (yay for one headlight that is new and not yellowed yet!!!). I'll probably just stick in a new steering wheel so I don't have to see the rips.

Anyway, I am totally excited! I get to pick it up tomorrow or thursday once its smogged and bring it back! Woohoo! I'll post pics as soon as I get it here!

Welcome to the Club ... $4,000 ... thats a deal. I paid $4750 for a 95 with 137K ... car has been in no serious accidents, but the previous owner didn't take to good care of the black paint ... so it needs some TLC. So what do you plan to do to her with the $2K?

I'm not really sure. I'll probably put some into the car, but I think I am going to try to save some for a new computer and food (hey, you gotta eat). If I do any mods it'll probably be intake, pulleys, fog lights, LSD, or some other cheap stuff. No swap in my near future on this budget :(

Reno -

Congrats on getting a 240!!!

Not to be a wet blanket, but be cautious with how much $$$ you put into her. With a salvage title, you won't be able to get full coverage. That means if it's damaged, hit or vandalized, it's your loss.

Post some pics soon - It sounds nice!!!!

I don't plan on upgrading too much. I just did put my first investment into the car though! Bought a 1996 FSM (the real one, not a crappy CD) for $82 shipped. Now I can know my car inside out :ylsuper

Well done.

You're off on the right foot already - Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

How many other retards blew their first $$$ on their car buying an intake or a fartcan... :rolleyes

i bought my 89 240 for 650 dollars...only thing was the engine was blown...had to bore it over...seems like everytime we are close to having it running, we run into something else...right now we think the injectors are clogged...I hope thats all it is...if so, we will have spent just over $500 to get it running, making it a $1200 dollar car...but its automatic :( I have plans to change that, and change it from 4 to 5 lug...

As for the SR swap... no plans for this year. Maybe when I come into some more money. I don't plan on spending much on engine work. It has some cheesy exhaust, but it sounds nice, so no need to replace it. Might get some better rims when it needs new tires, and a clutch will be on the way later this year. Definately do some minor cosmetic touch ups, maybe a little suspension work and an LSD. I don't want to put too much into it yet though, I am still amazed how quick it is in its near-stock form! (keep in mind I drove a minivan)

One of the things you should first invest in is a repair guide like a helms or a chilton, it'll save you lots of money.

but, does anyone know which one is better?

I just bought the Nissan Factory Service Manual, so I'm all set. This is the real deal, not Chilton's or anything :)

I got mine for $82 shipped. They normally are $70-100... damn expensive, but a good investment if you want to work on your car imo...
