Well yesterday I was on 95 doing like 60 and a s14 pulled up on the side of me.... i noticed he had an exhaust but I didn't pay it any mind... so I jumped behind him to play a little cat and mouse... I ran with him for a while... I took my vert all the way up to 115mph and I was still hot on his tail... I pulled on the side of him and asked him what he had and he told me a sr and took off... when I tried to take off too my poor vert gave me no power... I heard a terrible clacking noise from the hood... I had blew a rod.... I got it home and she's been sitting there since... now the purpose of this story is to spark a discussion on kas and srs... the guy I raced car didn't leave my ka in high speeds and he was turbo. So I wanted to kno. Is the sr REALLY worth the money? Or should I just rebuild my ka?(125,000 miles on it by the way...) from what I've seen in this race the sr doesn't really have high torque at highway speeds.

The dude was either lying to you or was not running anything but a stock SR. Otherwise he would have left you in the dust. I say SR because they're simpler, easier to work on, and they are already turbo, so you have a great platform to start building. KA's can be built, but IMO an SR is a much easier way to go overall because there's less reworking and more upgrading.

I was debating the same thing, but I decided to go RB instead. SR does seem to be an easy swap but I also hear the KA is more solid. good luck deciding lol

Reliability - stock(ish) SR20

Be cool and do it yourself - KA-T

Just make sure if you get an SR, it's in decent shape.

Sr is the suckers way out I feel... I rather know EXACTLY what's under my hood for $2500... (pistons rods etc).... plus they have leak issues... (so I've heard) kas bigger and better displacement... plus the only srs for a decent price ARE used. Would you rather have a motor that an idiot had before you and he sells it to you for 2000 bucks just for it to break down in 3months? Or rebuild your ka to your liking and budget?

of course the sr is going to be used, it's not a crate motor...

but I'd say go sr if you want turbo, if you want ka, than do an all motor build...

I just blew the head gasket on my ka so I have been going through this same debate in my head. After starting to unbolt my head. I have noticed that someone has already had it apart and machined etc. It still all looks brand new so I am thinking KA. For mine. If you decide on SR you might as well tear it apart before putting it into the car anyhow. Either way you are going to rebuild. It's easier to find parts for the SR so it's really up to you. Both motors obviously are good or there would be no giant debate over it.

Agreed. My SR is pretty stock with a GT2560R and a set of OBX, yes OBX, 264 cams. I am not intimidated by much on the street. I was all about the CA then all about boosting a KA. Once I got a SR powered car dropped into my lap, I regret all these years not saving for a SR from day one. My car has hung with a 370whp Procharged Mustang with built trans from a roll and a LS1 Trans Am with gears and other bolt ons with like 415hp. I have taken down 280whp GSX from roll. I have also taken down a couple modified Subaru WRXs from a dig. I drive the car daily and I have been able to fix everything myself. Even shattering two rocker arms. Toss two more in her and she is good to go. Car went on a 1000+ mile car rally and had slight issues. I put new plugs in it was the slight issue that pertained to the motor.

Must agree! I also I love my sr, gt28, greddy intake manifold, stock injectors exhaust Etc. pulls strong for me..... I just bought my wife her first vet w/ KIA I was thinking about seeing if I could slide all my old T28 stuff over to her car,,,,,Like she needs it......
