Driving on the freeway raced a 740i. Dropped to 4th and pulled on him, hit the rev limiter, shifted to 5th and I stopped accelerating and the 740 eventually passed me. I figured my throttle cable was slipping through the firewall again.

Then I noticed that my car was starting to backfire. Drove easy for 5 miles on the fwy and exited to get gas. Now I see my car smoking out the exhaust. Pulled into the station and popped the hood and there was oil all over the intake side of engine. White smoke was comming out from everywhere. Well it's midnight and I decided to just limp it home for 2 miles.

Spent yesterday cleaning the oil and it was everywhere on the intake side of engine and all the way back underneath the car. Got new oil and filter and changed that. Started the car and it sounds fine but then the smoke started again from the exhaust and even out of the dipstick. So I warmed up the engine and did a compression test. Oh Crap!

Take a look at plug number 1 and 6. What do you guys think?

Stock everything with fmic and 3" turbo back. Walbro, FPR, ... no FC, boost controller, or anything. I would boost around 10-11 psi but would spike to 13 sometimes. Last recorded high numbers are 11 psi and 7178 rpms.

No clue. BTW, I am selling this car. Anyone interested?

It's my daily driver. Not enough funds in the bank to get another dd and keep this as a project.

Detonation, huh? You don't think a piston got it? I was explaining to my friend over the phone and he thinks it might have been the main bearings gave out from oil starvation and threw a piston higher. Not sure though.

What do you think of #1? Blown ring, stuck valve? My guess is a ring since the plug is all wet.

How much would a rebuild kit cost? and installation?

Problem is it will take some time for that. I don't have transportation to work now. So need to get a ride in a couple of days.

I am hoping to get $4000. If that is being realistic.

yea looks like you were running pretty hot to fuse a plug. ur better off checking the head gasket before pulling a piston. odds are my friend there is some internal damage.... that really sux..

Click on the link and it will direct you to the "for sale" section. For mods see imagestation. Not pictured in there are suspension (kyb, eibach), vlsd, brakes (brembo rotors and kvr pads), and dual N1.

I think you would know if a main bearing went bye-bye. That would sound quite a bit worse than a backfire.

But a headgasket, forged pistons, porting, etc. won't get you very far... they'll last maybe 3 seconds longer before being destroyed by the same detonation. Fix that problem first (bad tuning or whatever), then buy the nice parts.

If you decide to keep that car, that is....

Yeah, I'm letting it go. So is $4k a fair price to ask for with all the parts less the engine?

I am actually breathing a sigh of relief. Depressed, but relieved. The way I was using the car, blowing the engine was a sign. It could have been worse. I need a pick-up truck.

I wouldnt just dump it off like that... pull the head off and inspect it... you may find that its a simple fix and can get either back on the road or sold faster then selling it like it is.

my boy dropped a valve into his piston and was able to dress the scar and get it back up again. It can`t hurt to take a look.

Zero compression most likely means you either blew a HUGE hole in the piston or you just dropped a valve or two. I'd lean towards the latter given how you say its running.

Unless all that oil is coming from a hole in the block - in which case the first case sounds more likely.

Why don't you just pull the head real quick and then go from there - it'll take one night of steady work. Then get a rental car or something until you can fix it. Or find a junker for like $500 and just drive that as a DD.

if it detonated, its also possible that the ringlands on #1 colapsed, holding the rings compressed..... that'll allow for no compression/oil on plug....

If you need a junker car my friend has a 91 G20 that has a newer (used) engine and transmission for sale. I think he said he would take 800 for it. You need the hook up smog tho cause it has a JDM intake manifold on it and not the USDM (no EGR valve).

Thanks for all the support. As of right now, I am just going to let the car sit for awhile. Maybe 6 months and tinker with it. If someone wants to buy it for a good price I won't deny them. But I am in no rush to sell now since I bought a car.

Yellow- I would have jumped on that $800 junker in a heartbeat 2 days ago. Now I have to make car payments for 5 years. I decided to get a new car since I won't have to worry about anything breaking down for 4 years. That way I could concentrate on fixing up the house and give the Jeep some tlc.

But thanks to all, I will start looking inside the covers and head and will keep you guys posted.

I miss my car already. Today I saw a G35 up ahead and instinctively I was about to down shift to kill it. Then I remembered I am in a family sedan now. Sad.
