It's called an L3n71b and it's just gone out. I'm having a hell of a time finding ANY information on this transmission. All I know is that this trans was only made from 1986.5 to 1987 for the VG30i, it's a 3 speed, and made by Jatco. Even then, during those years of production, there were obviously many variants of the hardbody/pathfinder during those years making this transmission even harder to locate information on. Anyone know of interchangeable transmissions, where to locate a used one, or any other information? I'm about half way done pulling out the transmission and transfer case but I don't know if I'm going to be forced to rebuild it or if I can swap something else into the truck.

I imagine you could swap for a v6 5spd or a 4 speed auto from any v6 truck from that time period. If you go auto you will likely need computers and harnesses from a donor truck. My father's 87 v6 Pathfinder had the 3 speed auto. It blew the pump seal and that was when my father got rid of it. Served him well for many years though.

Okay awesome. I may look into the four speed, because this 3 speed has been a total nightmare trying to find. Even the junkyards don't have this transmission and there's like 15 hardbody and pathfinders at each.

I don't understand why Nissan even offered a 3speed on those trucks. At 65 MPH the engine was working harder than it needed to.

Agreed. Perhaps that's why the trans is only used for 1.5 years. When it comes to s a 4 speed swap. How "difficult" is it. Is it simply swapping the ecu, and wiring harness and that's it? Or is there a lot more that I can run into? I am somewhat mechanically inclined and have swapped and pull transmissions before
