Hi Everyone,

I currently have a 2005 GTO (loud, stiff, fast) that I want to sell. I'm tired of sports cars and want to buy a quiet comfortable car.

The M45 right now is probably the best value for the money right now. The 2006 M45 model is what I'm looking at and could use some pointers from you guys while I shop around..

1) What problems do these cars have that I need to watch out for?2) Signs that the car has been abused? (anything specific to M45s.. certain noises?)3) What are some of the features that someone looking to buy a M45 must get? What are some useless ones that arn't needed?4) Difference in sports and luxury models? Is sports much stiffer (suspension) than lux? My aim is quiet and comfort...5) any sites that go into details about the packages and options for the 2006 model? Infiniti's site only has the latest 2008/2009 details.. dont know what has changed since them6) Did the 2006 model come with an ipod interface?7) Anything else that may help me want to buy this car or stay away from it?

Lastly.. besides the engine, what is the difference between a m35 and a m45? Is there a big difference in power? Gas millage?

The M45 seems like a really good car.

Thanks a lot guys,

JS

Hello,Welcome to NICO. Due to the plummeting resale values of 2006+ M's, there has been an influx of new owners recently. Accordingly, these exact questions have been posted literally dozens of times. A great place to start is Nico's Search listing. It works quite well and contains a trove of knowledge.

I will say that full service records and a PPI (pre purchase inspection) are an absolute must if purchasing preowned. Especially so for an expensive technology laden sedan. The V8 is a bit quicker. The V6 has waaaaaaaay more of an aftermarket for engine upgrades. The V8 is truly velvet smooth however. Mileage is closer than you would think. Sport Model does ride less compliantly. Love the wheels however. The conditions of your local roads should be a consideration.

Major options are Nav/Intelligent Cruise Control. There are many others included in certain packages. All M's come well equipped however.

Good Luck,ML

Thanks for the tip.

Ive been thru the first few pages and have been reading the posts. And as you say, there is an influx of new owners, the threads that ive read are very light on any useful iniformation. Thats why I was compeled to write a post that would cover most of the questions in one place..

The search is definately good but being new to the M45 world, Im ot familiar with all of the lingo and as such, the search is only as good as the keywords you search for.

Perhaps the mods should think about creating a sticky for the basic information.

I appreciate your input. As far as pre inspection, thats always a hit and a miss. If somethig major is wrong with that car, I wont need a pre inspection to know of it, its always the little things that get you. Thats why i asked if there were any M45 specifc thigs that I should watch out for...

To me, when spending 30 thousand plus, paying for an hour of labor to have the car inspected by a trained technician makes an awful lot of sense. Coupled with the dealer having all records (hopefully) make it a slam dunk. For instance, if no records are found, more than likely it was a fleet lease which you cannot run far enough away from. These cars have some very advanced and expensive components.

So specifically, there is not an Achilles Heel. Isolated incidents of oil consumption would probably lead it. Nothing catastrophic. That being said, purchasing one that was leased and not cared for often can lead to calamity. Sadly, many lessors treat them like rental cars. Knowing you are not going to keep it changes everything. Even with a warranty, it is wholly inconvenient to have your ride break down.ML

Good comments, thanks, Mark!

I would highly recommend getting an extended warranty from Infiniti (use Courtney at Scottsdale Infiniti). One problem with most modern cars, regardless of brand, is that *if* you have some electronics fail, then it is expensive to repair. Usually makes the warranty well worth the cost.

Go for the Infiniti warranty - third-party ones tend to leave you hanging at the wrong moment.
