I am stuck with electrical and heating problems

I have a bit of a problem but I just cant seem to figure it out where I am its getting colder and I have to work early in the mornings well my problem is my heater it heats but by the time I start to work and hit the road it doesnt seem to get hot fast enough I am only 8 miles from work and its all highway but i was wondering if something can be done to verify what the problem may be ? AND my second problem is my rear window defogger it worked well this past summer and fall and now when I depress the switch the light illiluminates but none of the heater lines display the heating evidence . I just bought a mulitmeter what do I do next ? I appreciate all your help in advance.Thanks

for the heat i would check the coolant level first. then i would drive to work and see if the heater hoses are hot once you get there. feel the hoses. are both hot, just one, or neither? what kind of car?

Sorry I didnt enter all the required information about my car its a 1993 Nissan 240 SX SE
