So tonight I am browsing NICO and playing Madden, having an enjoyable evening. I head off the bathroom and when I come back I find a massive insect flying against my screen. All I could say is "oh sh*t". My cat walks in and immediately goes into action, just as she is about to pounce, the flying mosquito from hell disappears. Now all I can say is "Aww hell naww".

I close the door to my room and continue to play Madden because I didn't plan on sleeping until this thing was found. So after about 10 minutes my cat starts meowing like I have never heard before, it was like a desperate whimpering. Soon I find out it is a plea for this thing to land lower so she could jump and eat it. So I go the closet and get Windex (won't harm floor or wall), which was the best I had. I relived the cat of her duty (made her leave for fear of windexing her by accident) and sprayed it 8 times. Even after that the insect almost muscled it's way out of the pool of lemony goodness, so I crushed it and took pictures.

My cat gave me the best gift of all, peace of mind...

So in return I went to the basement, finished drying her favorite towel, placed it on my bed and gave her half a piece of roasted ham cold cut. She's awesome! Image

Cliff notes:
- I find HUGE bug in my room
- Bug disappears and now I can't sleep
- Cat finds bug, I kill bug and take pictures
- I get to comfortably sleep, and so does my cat.

Just hit the damn bug. It's a bug. It won't hurt you.

I do enjoy watching my cats toy with flying creatures, though. My more agile cat will catch moths, crane flies, etc. and trap them under his paws. Then he'll let them go and wait until they're ALMOST out of reach before pouncing again. Every time he lets it get a little further away. A lot of the time I find myself thinking there's no possible way he could catch the thing again this time...and he still does. Sniper cat of the apocalypse.

"Hitting" the thing was out of the question...

My TV or walls being "hit" would A) break some thing and B) leave bug juice all over. A few sprays of anything brings it to the ground and then hitting becomes a viable option. I am not scared of insects, but this was big, noisy and big. Only the second insect to intimidate me ever. 1st was when I held a fully grown cockroach. It was large enough that I could feel the weight of that thing...

scary... my cat loves to chase bugs around too, usually moths or flies at the screen.

this thread went from , RCA loves his cat and may turn into crazy cat dude, to bug pictures. ugh. Good thing my cat eats them (ewww this is what cat toothbrushes are for). Wait till your cat saves the day by catching and bringing you mice, sometimes half squished-truestory.

he's not agile enough for the occasional wood mouse or rabbit, but he's getting closer each time. a split second sooner on his initial pounce and he'll bag one for sure. i love watching him "hunt".

Not worried about that. Centipedes don't move fast enough...

Image I ain't no cat dude.
Also my cats have caught live mice/rats none of them too big. Also one time I watched my cat Discovery Channel stalk a bird in my backyard, she pounced and went for the kill shot in the back of the neck. She killed it and I made sure to separate them, she was then taken for shots.

I won't lie bug creep me out, but I know what bugs are good and what bugs are bad. That thing that you killed Rich looks like a Mosquito Hawk, they hunt and eat mosqito's, flies, and a couple of other things. They are basically like the F18's of the insect world and can catch and eat their prey in mid flight.

i was just kidding haha. I dont know bout you, but I found my cat in a box on the side of a road and I happened to be the lucky idiot who opened the box. That's what I get for having a boxcat as a pet- dead mice presents.

I'd probably grab it and then try and find a box to take it home in. It's a tailless scorpion, and not venomous. But it looks friggin' awesome. I'd like to keep one in a terrarium.

Know what's REALLY epic? That's not a misquito, it's a Crane fly, also referred to as a 'terror fly' since it closely resembles a misquito, but way larger. What's a Crane fly's main diet? ...actual misquitos!

Around here they call them a "mosquito hawk".

I welcome them with open windows, because they eat like 50 mosquitoes a day.

We've had a bunch of these come in the house at night when we let the dog in and out. So, we plugged up the bug zapper inside the house and turned off the lights. One by one....zap, zap, zap.....

Right, because you know what it is. If you didn't, I am sure you would be weary of it.

Just don't kill the next one. They will keep your house free of mosquitoes, a good thing if you are prone to leaving the door open and sometimes have standing water in your backyard after a rain...

I hear ya! My cats have taken good care of our house. They have cornered/eaten many different bugs - centipedes (gross) scorpions, flies, moths (they fight over who gets to eat those) spiders, you name it! The female (Perogie) is on constant Bug and Mouse patrol, she has a set pattern and is very vigilant about her duties. She knows no fear.
