All of these are JGS parts. The tees and elbows are 1.5"id and mate up to the weld plate perfectly. I purchased .035 rosin core wire at home depot for this.

Now I just need to finish the radius plate and cut a hole in this thing.

I hope to have the KA-T running within a few days ;)

Here are the pics

Enjoy

hmm... for the same cost of materials i ended up with a manifold like this:

along with less work than using the JGS.....

i gave up on the log after the 23984723th time mine cracked/ broke in half.

FYI thats rougly $100 in materials. How much did you pay for that thing cause welding only costs me the wire.

oops. i was thinking the kit the sell with the prebuilt log. forgot they sold a DIY kit. I paid 150 for the manifold, 50 for the flange. Swapping out flanges is relatively easy. My friend did the same thing I did, but also swapped the T25 turbine flange for a T3 flange (my welds are way nastier (in a good way) than his though.... mostly because I didn't want to do them this time around). The T3 apparently fits better than the T25 does on mine.

so.... even though it's $100 more... i'd say it's worth it. by the time I was ready to swap manifolds, my old log was broken into 3 completely seperate peices.

In any case.... if you're going to keep the log... make sure those welds are GOOD, or just keep a few spare sets of gaskets handy for when you pull it off to reweld it.

and yeah, it's the SR manifold. i posted info on one of the other threads (T25 on the KA i think). please post there with Q's on it if you must. don't wanna thread jack more than i already have, and my apologies as well.

How thick was the material you used in that manifold?

Sched 40 carbon steel. It cracked at the welds at the collector, then spread till it was deaded.

Lowes, Grade 8 stuff with split lock washers tightened down as much as possible.

Our team has run logs on several cars and they have NEVER cracked. AceInhole Were you useing forged or cast parts?

The forged manifolds my teamates run have not cracked even running HIGH boost for extended periods of time. This is my first time building one though. I did it just as my friends did though so, it should last a good long while.

So you used about 3.6mm thick stuff yeah?Hopefully with the correct penetration (mig) i won't see cracking with the 4mm wall thickness piping i'm using.

The stuff I used was quite thick 0.188" Thick to be exact thats what? a little over 4.5mm. Thats why I was suprised by how well the machine was doing.

The welds went well untill all the metal really started to heat up then some splattering started. Had to let the mani cool before we could continue.

Nahh I just used flux core. I wish I had some gas for the welder that would be nice but, I am poor ;) I noticed a few spots where the welds are kinda thin and crappy so I will need to do some touch up when im working on the turbo flange.

I have been very busy with work but I managed to finish the radius plate that the turbo flange will mount on. I will try to get the thing finished between tomorrow and sonday. I will get some fresh pics for you guys then.

Try to go slower with your bead when using the flux core, I know the smoke and spatter are horrible, but it will yeild a better weld. Well, aslong as you don't burn a hole through anyway...lol. I use a fan and halogen light when using fluxcore wire, it helps you see the weld bead a ton better.

That doesn't look to bad for flux core though my friend. Just clean off the spatter and sand blast/sand it and no one will be the wiser.

Yea I was suprised. I like the halogen lamp idea though. I will definatly use that next time.

I plan to bead blast the whole thing when im done. Then I will be using the ceramic plasticoat to seal everything off.

The mani looks great!! I am having a hard time finding a turbo flange for my turbo but i hope to find one soon. I also am building a new radius plate because I burnt a big hole in it when I was trying to weld it on. My friend is going to grind down my welds and re weld it with his tig welder because he thinks it will be stronger. O well its free. Either way good job
