I am sure that all of you have noticed that the infiniti grill has nearly zero differences from the grill on a Hyundai??? I crappy car like that should not be allowed get away with this type of stunt. Not to mention that that one model of Hyundai looks just like a Jag, but that is a whole nother story. . .

Secondly, to anyone outthere who owns a J30, why the hell does this thing have the turning radius of an H1 Hummer?!?!? Everybody stairs at me when I have to make a 3 point turn just to get out of a parking space and it is embarrasing...I heard the touring addition has four will steering, but just at high speeds?!?!? What is the purpose?

Lastly, on the J30's security remote (1995) does anyone know how to make it audible? So it will beep the horn or something when I set it and deactivate it? Thanks in advance...

Manufacturers only complain about copying if the copy is viewed as competition. An example would be that the 1990 Q and the 1990 Lincoln both used Mercedes style seat adjustment controls. Only Infiniti had to change their's! Hyundai is not a contender.

Another good example: New Tiburon and Ferrari 456GT - So similar (in profile) it's scary.

I don't think Enzo is losing any sleep over it. :D

The touring hicas steering is only activated over a certain speed (I beleive 25+ MPH) and is noticable on highways making big swooping turns at over 100. The security remote doesn't make sound unless you hold the button down and it goes into panic mode. It would be nice if it would make a sound instead of just flashing the lights. Don't beleive it is possible to change that. I don't find the turning radius to be that inadequate. Hope you enjoy your J.

Actually at low speeds It still works; only instead of <with> the turn it turns against the turn reducing the turning radius. So it has 2 modes: one low speeds and one for high speeds.

I hate the horn beep on my 2000 I30t. If you hold both the lock and unlock buttons down, the system switches between just a light flash, and the flash/horn beep. My wife likes the beep, so I leave it that way, but when I drive the car to work, or to get the oil changed, I always re-program it.

I am not sure which year this started. It does not work on my '94 Q.

Sorry about the J's turning radius. The Q turns on a dime. I love it! I can pull in the garage, without backing up, but I have to do it twice in the I30. I thought it was because of the Front Wheel Drive, but I guess the J is just as bad.

Frankly, I never noticed any problem with the J's turning radius. The wheel base isn't short so that is probably taking some time for you to get used to. No sound for the J alarm. It was considered a nice feature when it came out. No disturbing the neighbors.

Honda Civics have a short turning radius if manouvering the J is too much for you.

I suppose, but I am REALLY new to infinity products all together. I think that J30 is the most distinctive out of the bunch (probably why they trashed it; luxury car buyers tend to be more conservative) and maybe the Q because its size. Anyway, when I am on the road I sometimes look out for other infinity owners and I always confuse Hyundai's with'em. 'Cause less face it; both Makes have generally pretty plain body styles (my girl has her infinity "Pathfinder" as jokingly call it. I hate that thing, but I am really feel'n the FX) and I can't see leather heated seats or a nice stereo from the oustide...

One thing I have learned from Hyundai (They are building a plant in Montgomery, AL, & I am providing all the HVAC equipment), is, their build standards are higher than most all US or Japanese auto makers.

Believe it or not, My brother is a GM/Volvo/Jag/Lincoln supplier, and they all have their sights set on Hyundai. Their body panel gap is 3mm, where all the others, except Volkswagen, is 4 to 4.5 mm.

I agree, their past was prety crappy, and most of their cars are not too prety, but give them a couple of years, and Honda will wonder what happened...

Still not quite ready to buy one, though.

For real? You got to be kidding me. . . I will go out in check when I leave for school. Well, like I said before, the first I really even seen a infiniti in depth was when my girl bought a QX4 about a month and a half ago.

Nissan got into some difficult financial straights during the mid 90s and was forced to reduce the number of models and the J was the obvious choice to go. FWD was becoming very popular, so the brain trust came out with the I30. Shares the same platform as the Maxima which is a good car in its own right.

The J was too expensive to produce. Nissan dropped the HICAS for the 95 year to save some money but added adjustable lumbar supports and other goodies to make up the difference.

Perhaps there were only 250k total J30 sales in the US. As I said, front wheel drive was becoming the fad and Infinity had to compete against Lexus. LS300 Vs I30. The J30 was left to compete against European offerings. The J30 does not look like the BMWs, etc from that era so the J was in tough. The J30 however, is a completely different beast from the I30 or LS300. Much more a driver's car and way more luxurious. Too much for Nissan at that time.

I'm still hoping for a new J35. Something more luxurious and a little larger than the G35 perhaps with a factory supercharger.

I have never had a problem with the turning radius on my J. As for the horn beeping, keep in mind that you do have an 8 year old car and that was not a big "must have" back then. If it means that much to you add it to the car.

If or when you learn to appreciate the J you will learn how to drive her and know her limits. For now I would suggest that you learn how to park in a parking space. Sounds like human error not car radius to me.

Oh, and Please learn to spell the car line correctly, it is Infiniti not Infinity. Man that is a huge pet peeve with me.

Welcome!

Well, if he is going to own the car he should know how to spell it.

I will stick to my usual reading the posts versus posting.

thanks!

J-Owner, we don't need to lose you, so post away. Almost everyone who stumbles across Infiniti who was oblivious to it before needs a gentle reminder on how it is spelled.

Even businesses like levelten spell it wrong.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Response: Great, and I am sure that tricycle would have an even shorter turning radius than the civic, but like you, that would just me being sarcastic. I read before I purchased the car that it had a wide turning radius, but it still feels a bit weird because I am used to driving a 1990 Mercedes 190e and furthurmore. . .

Quote »As for the horn beeping, keep in mind that you do have an 8 year old car and that was not a big "must have" back then. If it means that much to you add it to the car.[/quote]

Response: My Mercedes was more than 13 years old and it made a beeping noise when I set the alarm system. However, the seats were not heated, it did not have an auto tint mirror, no CD player, and the stock speakers couldn't touch the J30's. That is the only reason I asked. I like would be criminals to hear me set my alarm (just a personal thing).

Kind of like the question "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?" J30 and Q45 don't get stolen very much. Vandaliztion is another matter in the wrong neighborhoods.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Actually, the no beep alarm was a desirable feature built into the J. Car alarms had been beeping for years. A silent arming one was a refreshing change.

The J is a bigger vehicle than a Merc 190. Mine weighed in at 3827 lbs. Seriously though, I have never noticed a problem with the turning radius.

On the new M45, the beep is very short - barely sounds the horn in a short blip. Deliberately done that way, I think. I kinda like this approach a lot more than (a) no beep or (b) a loud beep. On my 1995 Q45, the remote did the gentle beep (the car did not beep) and that was also sufficient ... till the remote beep stopped working and no cure could be had (from Infiniti or sources here)!

Maybe I just do too much electrical work, but it would be uber-simple to wire a relay to sound the horns when the lights flashed. Granted it wouldn't be a single beep, but it would beep and your discontent would be resolved.

Most shops can had the flash to your horn beep, or beep to your flash, no matter what system youre using. On my aftermarket CrimeStopper II system, it can go either way. I have it set to beep loud with no flash.

I like when people hear the beep. And it only beeps if I hit lock or unlock twice, in case Im standing far away and need to hear a confirmation. Its great for when Im walking away from the Q, facing wherever I'm going, while locking it.

My neighbor was at a mall with his family when his daughter wanted the car keys to get whatever a 15 year old needs. He gave her the keys and she comes bach 10 minutes later. She says she can't get into the car because the remote doesn't work. He says, "Did you try using the key?" She says. "I didn't know you could unlock the car with a key."
