So, I was reading the tech page of the ITB install, after I searched it alittle bit. I want to know why the hell we need to install the naste looking "FORD EDIS" stuff?

Btw here is the link for the ITB install:http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=179898

The migasquirt does not need the Ford Edis stuff, so I got to wondering ...is the Ford Edis stuff optional?

Here is the link that says migasquirt does not need the ford edis.http://www.diyautotune.com/cat....html

Something to think about.

I am running megasquirt n' spark on my turbo 240Z and my Z31T, neither of which are running edis right now, I do intend to when I get around to it, the edis is just one way of controlling COP setups, you use the trigger wheel to trigger the edis which converts it to a signal megasquirt can read to control fusl and spark when megasquirt needs to fire and injector (actually 2 as edid is a wasted spark setup as are most COp setups) it sends a signal to the edis module which in turn sends a signal to a pair of coils, one of which is at r near it's tdc and the other is 180 out (actually 360 as it takes another full revolution to inhale and compress) I intend to use chrysler couil pack for my conversions as they allow you to use normal spark plugs and on one I'm considering running multiple MSD upgraded dual post Coils, with megasquirt version 2 you can fire coils directly but I'm not sure how many and I hear it can have a tendancy to fry the transistor, the version 2.2 and version 3.0 boards could be modified as well but I think they could only fire one and the transistors had a tendancy to fry, I'm currently using an MSD coil and an HEI module to fire it controlled by MSNS

So you are saying that I can run ITB's with migasquirt, and NOT use the ford edis stuff, correct?

I know you can run stock COP's wiht the ford edis wheel, trigger and module, and skip their coil pack and wires, looks like MS2 has only one ignition driver as well so you'd still need edis or some other COP controller to fire the coil packs,a dn I'm pretty sure you can trigger and edis module with the stock CAS but you still need the edis box to sleect and fire the COP's or some similar controler, edis is available and cheap, and modular which makes it idea for retrofits

or you can run a standard coil, and fire it direct form MS2 but you'd need a distributor of some sort, didn't the ka come with a dsitributor? at least int he earlier models?

then no you don't need edis, you can use the distributor to trigger the MS and then fire the coil directly from megasquirt 2, if using megasquirt 1, and can fire ti using an HEI module, MSD box, stock ignitor etc
