So, right now I own a cobalt LS 05 and I'm seriously considering to switch for an A/C 2.5. I just love the car and my coby is sort of falling into peaces, which reminds me all the time that maybe buying american wasn't that of a good idea. I've read a lot about everything about the A/C as I'm trying to buy smart and not too spontaneous and more I learn about it, more I luv it. I finally went for a drive test and I had a good impression in general but was sort of surprised by way it feels with the stick shift(like more stiff than I'm used to) .Since I first owned a cavalier and then the cobalt I've just experienced american until now and I consider their transmissions pretty smooth. I couldn't say if this is bad or good. But since a lot of people seem to prefer japanese cars should I assume this is just something I'll get used to and even quickly enjoy more? I know I sound unexperimented but if someone can help me clear my mind about it.Anyway I just wanna hear your experiences if u own one or know more about it. Just tell me the good and bad points u've all found.

BTW; I have nothing to do with this poll, it wasn't even meant to be one. I guess I made a mistake somehow when I made this thread. Modified by nyxboy at 7:29 PM 4/28/2009

I had to reread that about 3 times and I'm still not sure I understand what you're asking? Are you asking if we like the transmission? I'm assuming that you're talking about the CVT?

Theres nothing id change about my 2.5, I have it with the premium package (for the leather) but i dont have the tech package (aftermarket navi is what ill get eventually)

Im glad i dont have a 3.5 (bc of gas and insurance)...

My previous ride was a 2000 mustang that i got new back in the day... I wasnt really happy with it from day 1. I have had the opposite experience with the AC... 100% satisfied since day 1!

Go for it.Way better ride and looks way sleeker.....and gas....MAN..... the 2.5 delivers beautiful gas mileage when it comes to speed and not burning gas.

I suggest you get this car! I have a 2.5 and I love it, I would have bought the 3.5 but they cost a small fortune in Canada. I waited and got the 6MT and I am very happy I waited. The 2.5 is driving great in the snow and the heated seats are the best.

You cant go wrong buying this car, it is the sexiest car you can buy for the money.

I say you buy a 3.5, gas isn't really an issue anymore (for now). I waisted 27 bucks today to fill it up.

I've put some corrections, sorry about that it was kind of late when I did the post. I should be the one who reread my own stuff 3times before posting it.
There is some of the reasons why I'm choosing the 2.5 and also just being curious I asked the seller to print me the totals after tax to compare and this is like(for canada) 31,100 for the 2.5(basic) and like 40,200 for the 3.5 and to be honnest it begins to be to much for what I'm willing to pay for this car even tough how great I think this car is.I prefer to invest after to modify some of the parts I'd like to improve instead. Trust me my friend this is temporary, the crisis is giving us a break but this is all it's gonna be. Also each time I go to the US I fall on my back when I see how much cheaper it is for a full tank. Before this famous drop of prices it reached here(mtl) the 1,50 per litre which, someone corrects me if I'm wrong but should be aprox. multiplied by 4 to make a gallon so about 6$?!

Quote »31,100 for the 2.5(basic) and like 40,200 for the 3.5
I'd find another dealer!! I bought the 3.5SE and the difference in price was just $4000 over the 2.5S. AND, not only do you get the V6, but you get a host of other upgrades too, like larger wheels and tires, sport suspension (including larger sway bars), traction control (switchable, and very nice in the snow), fog lights, auto climate control, and more. In short, it was a pretty good deal.

Maybe they were trying to sell you an SE with the leather package too?? My A/C was just over $35,000 CDN, taxes and all.

As for gas, I average around 8.6L/100km, while a friend at work gets about 7.5 with his 2.5 sedan (similar driving conditions). Sure, it'll drink more if you have a heavy foot, but I don't worry about the difference in normal driving.

Gas isn't my only reason I am 23 and the insurance cies would just charge me a fortune(they already do but there's always worst ). But you are right, the reasons why I asked him to look for the 3.5 was cause a lot of good options aren't available with the 2.5manual so as the good seller he was, he assumed I wanted the full package. But let say for a guy of my age it seems pretty hard to be taken seriously in a car dealer so it is kind of hard to make everything clear with the attitude I've got at the 2places I went(this pisses me off). But also alot of people seems to be happy with the 2.5 so I'm trying to stay with this idea. Leather seats as the auto climate ctrl are some of opts I'll regret to not get tough.-----When I also think about it they even told me I should hurry cause the prices were still dated from when the dollar was =1us but according to what I know it starts at 25 and in the US 20. It seems to be representative of the exchange rate we currently have up to date. But with this recetion(prices might drop more) and considering we're right in the middle of winter I feel like to wait a bit but I'm so not sure about it. I think this would be some other subjects I,d like to have your opinions guys.

I don't think the economic decline is going to affect the foreign cars as much. Where I live, North Am cars are going for as much as 6-10K (yes, 6-10K!) less than expected. Import car prices haven't dropped to any noticeable degree, though there are some very favourable financing rates available. At the moment, where I live in Ontario, Hondas are overpriced, Toyotas are too, and Mazda isn't much better. Nissan looks good.

You are young, so yes, insurance is a big factor. The coupe, especially the 3.5 SE would add big dollars to your premium. I'm older so it doesn't change things much. Good point, as the ongoing costs must be considered.

I wouldn't expect too much of a drop in foreign vehicle prices though. It is not the imports that are feeling the biggest crunch right now.

Bottom line... it sucks to be a young buyer, and this isn't the best time. On the upside, if there's an American car that catches your fancy, and you believe in bail-outs... you might make a good deal... but I wouldn't count on it as being a good investment in the long run.

As for the A/C, I love the thing! Glad I bought it!

»Finally, after all these months of thinking it is now official. I just made the move at the dealership and I'm now waiting for the delivery of a lil red 2.5s manual The feeling is good, I just now can't wait to experience its first drive home.

hey hey thx man, well thx to all of you guys, your comments really helped and encouraged me to make this choice after a long time waiting and taking infos about the car. The seller just called me to tell me they should receive the car as soon as tomorrow :O thats quite a shock as I was expecting it around the 2nd week of may. Not that I'm not happy about it but I havn't sold the cobalt yet. :S

It is currently at 81.9 at the station around the corner, it has been going up and down between 80 and 96 for the last few weeks. I kinda think it's good compared to last year but I enjoyed more when it really crashed last winter. Hopefully it'll stay around that for a few longer

I have a Slate Grey 2009 A/C 2.5S with the 6 speed MT, and I love the car. The CVT is fine, but if you can drive stick I recommend the MT. I've had my car since November and its amazing.

Honestly my younger brother has an 03 Sentra SER SPEC-V, and I think he's jealous, he was talking about buying a used Altima the other day.

Finally! after all this time she's finally home. As the dealership where I bought it was at the northeast end of the city,(and me living kinda in southwest) I had the chance to experience a really long first drive home in the traffic. But I so didnt care about it. It was awsome just to take her home. I just love how it feels to drive it. I can't recall I liked it that much on the test drive I guess I had to live it by myself without this seller I so didnt really feel. I also had this strange impression that people was paying more attention than im used to.lol Anyway this is the kind of feeling we only can have once in a while. I feels good to officially be an ac owner!

for those who r like me and cant get bored of seeing ac pics here one even if it isnt the best shot i could have take.
