Hey Guys,

I am sorry to say that I am NOT an Infiniti owner, but a very close friend is and she is having problems- minor, but problems still the same- but let us get back to talking about her car!!

I am having two issues:1) The “service engine light” is on. I have always been under the impression that these lights are to remind of routine maintenance, but after reading an earlier post- about the flassy lights- I am no longer sure.

2) Possible starter problems. About two nights ago, the car would not start. We had power, lights, windows worked- it just would not turn- at all. Waited a while and it started up.

Question- are these two problems related? [I have never known a starter to be hooked into the sensors, but I have not worked on cars in about 20 years either!!]

Check engine light is to let you know something is wrong, not for routine maintenance. Whenever you see a check engine light, the best first step is to have someone scan the car for error codes. If the light's on, there will be an error code to tell you why. Parts store chains will generally do the scan for free. This thread lists all the codes and their meanings.

There is a starter lockout for the factory alarm. To disable the alarm, you just need to press unlock on the key fob or unlock one of the doors with the key. If the car gives her starting problems again, have her take note of whether doing either of those remedies the problem. She may want to try locking the door, closing it, then unlocking it from outside and opening it again before trying to start it if just unlocking doesn't work.
