Hyundai just released the pricing for the Genesis coupe--the V6 starts at $25,000 and tops out at $31,750.

I rushed the price and features info for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe into TrueDelta's database, so you can now run quick, thorough comparisons here--note that the Genesis Coupe (listed separately from the Genesis Sedan) is a 2010:

Car price comparisons

I ran a comparison with the G37, loading both up (Track on the Genesis, Sport+Premium+spoiler on the G37). At MSRP the Genesis is $11,315 less. The Infiniti includes about $2,250 in extra features, things like a power passenger seat, power lumber, power tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, driver seat memoryl. Even after adjusting for these, we have a $9,065 price difference.

For reasons that now escape me, I failed to check out the interior of this car during media days at NAIAS. Photos suggest lower-grade materials than in the G37. So this accounts for some of the remaining price difference.

and the name.... that is what says it all and makes up the cost difference...

I drive a Hyundai or I drive an Infiniti....

I think we all know who wins...

Plus remember that Infiniti deals on their cars... a fully loaded G37 coupe 6mt could be had for under 40k with 4was and premium, sport, tech, etc.

I don't have invoice prices for the Hyundai yet. The margins are probably quite a bit tighter, so dealer discounts will be smaller. At first dealers will probably hope for MSRP. Remains to be seen whether they'll get it. If they do, it won't be for long.

I didn't want to start the debate which is better... I was just putting in my view of how I would justify the difference in price!

Nice find!

I really like the Hyundai Genesis...

When I see RMR's Genesis in person and when I test drive one...I pray that the car sucks, because if it doesn't...

...I might make a really crucial decision

I won't say what it's gonna be because tonight is not a good night to get flamed...

I think it is great to be the car that other car companies strive to be like.

I don't remember if it was C&D or R&T, but one of them did an article on the new Camaro and it called it "an American G37". Anybody that has owned a GM product lately knows that that is a joke. My husband's 99 'Vette was a total POS. It is almost like you need to buy 2 of them so you can have one to drive while the other one is in the shop.

Resale will kill it...Infiniti is a well-known quality mark, Hyundai is just recently getting better.

The Genesis can compete with the Ford Mustang...

don't forget. its a hyundai. "think about it". I can guarantee it isn't as refined, or fast, or pretty, its nice looking, but not like the G, it definitely isn't as luxurious. If Nissan Made a G37 with fewer features, and the Nissan badge, just a 370Z 2+2, they could sell it at about the same price as the Genesis. Call it Exodus. or Leviticus. Or 370Z 2+2, but not make a badge for the square root of 4. Anyway, I'll join a genesis club just to talk about how awesome my G is.

Just a little heads-up--your husband's '99 'Vette is ten years old. I'm not sure that qualifies as "lately."

There are more recent horror stories with GM products. But then there are some with Nissans as well.

I think GM has gotten much better in the last 3-5 years... older than 04 is junk... except the 350/5.7L v8 that was bullet proof! (the block)

This is true, but we spent 45k for a car that couldn't crank if it sat for more than 3 days. They never could fix that.

I spent 32k on an '01 WS6. When it was 1 1/2 years old the paint started to bubble up on it.

That was the last dollars of mine that GM got. I traded the WS6 for my S2000 and had 4 1/2 totally trouble free years. I'm hoping I have the same quality with my G37.

You might fare as well with the G37. But the impression I get from the S2000 is that it's not overly complicated in terms of electronics and was very thoroughly engineered.

Very simple, manual seats, no tilt wheel, minimal radio, only one speed on wiper delay, couldn't unlock passenger door from driver's seat....I could go on and on, but on a sunny day that car was a blast.

Doesn't the S2000 have power locks? Or can they only be operated with the key or key fob? Seems silly to save a button if the actuators are there.

Power lumbar is the power adjustment for lower back support in the seatback.

I think the Genesis price point is supposed to be a catch to reel people into buying Hyundai. Get a lower price so that people are at least attracted enough to test drive.

At some point they want to be competitive not only in performance, but also in price. I just don't see that happening for the time being.

The Genesis looks like a copy cat G to me...

Well, Nissan also has one of these, the Altima coupe. I ran some additional price comparisons, and found that the Genesis is priced very close to the Altima coupe even after the latter's $1,000 rebate.

So if you only have Altima coupe money, would you rather have RWD?

Yes...it had power locks, but if it was running and you wanted to let someone in the other door, you had to reach across and unlock it. There was no button on the driver's door to unlock the passenger door. Of course, that isn't a very far reach.

The Genesis Coupe section is finally up and running at HyundaiUSA.com.

If you're just going by looks, it's hard to say the G37 is the better car. But include the better interior and the Infiniti brand, it's a toss up.

But the performance will probably be very impressive. This was designed from the ground up as a performance car and Hyundai is out for blood so it'd be foolish to just dismiss it. And what's more impressive, Nissan's attitude with the GTR is that it's pretty much perfect and you shouldn't touch it whereas Hyundai is encouraging tuners to go at it. And with the R-Spec they're giving everyone a blank canvas to work on.

I think it'll be hugely successful. It's got sort of a Pininfarina design style to it which is pretty refreshing and won't just get lost in all the other "boring" inexpensive cars. The front is disappointing but the U.S. models have a black grille instead of the silver, which looks much better. I expect we'll be seeing kits out soon anyway. The aftermarket is going to be huge too.

I love how the R-Spec colors are all race tracks.

Pricing for 6-speed Manual

$22,000 - 2.0T$23,750 - 2.0T R-Spec (later release date)$24,250 - 2.0T Premium$25,000 - 3.8$27,500 - Grand Touring$29,500 - 3.8 Track

"The R-Spec brings a lot to the table by bringing less, targeted at the track day and tuner crowd who will be modifying their cars to start, so no Bluetooth stuff, no automatic headlights, cruise control, chrome trim, steering wheel buttons, and other nonessential doo-dads. It does keep all the good stuff though — four pot Brembos, Torsen limited slip differential, six speed manual and Bridgestone Potenza's wrapped around 19 inch gunmetal gray wheels. It also gets a more aggressive tune on the traction control system, 7% stiffer front springs and 15% stiffer rears, retuned dampers and thicker anti-roll bars.

Basically this is the Genesis Coupe we would be optioning were we in the market for one. Considering the price starts at $23,750, its going to be the darling of every high school parking lot."

All you ever post about is the Hyundai Genesis....

I'm curious as to your motives as a member here??

Which Hyundai dealership do you work for? Or do you work for their corp??
