my bike uses hypoid gear oil and here's a pic i found and a description of hypoid gears.Hypoid Gear The hypoid gear final drive is an improvement or variation of the spiral bevel design and is commonly used in light and medium trucks and all domestic rear-wheel drive automobiles. Hypoid gears have replaced spiral bevel gears because they lower the hump in the floor of the vehicle and improve gear-meshing action.

Ok guys u know how there si one of those hypoid LOOKING gears on the crankshaft? it;s in front of the crank gear, and its whitish in color. Well when I was replacign my timing chain I replaced the cam gear but I couldn't replace the crank gear cuz that white thing would not come off! And now I have another block sittign in my friend's basement, and I am trying to get it off and it still won't come off. It comes within a millimiter of coming of and then it is stuck like there is a magic hand holdign it. the FSM doesn't give me any tips abotu it either. Anyone who's taken it off, any ideas?

pulling doesn't do anything at all, what I had to do is place a screwdriver behind it, and tap it out with a hammer, but then it will come to a certain point, and will not let itself be tapped any further. I am at a loss.

I have a 1990 240SX as well....It seems to just be stuck there, and I don't think they make pullers in the size that the gear is... Would that be like a 2" puller? I'd order one if they come in that size. I'll look on http://www.harborfreight.com
