last night when i was at work i forgot to lower my sleepy eyes and it rained very heavily. the car started up fine when i left work, but a minute or two down the road the engine started to spudder and shake so i pulled it off the road and inspected my cia. the filter was soaked. i am told when you hydro lock your engine wont even start, but mine does. any takers on what the problem might be?

you might have been getting enough water to hinder combustion, but not enough to hydro lock. If it hydrolocks it usually bends a rod or something like that, but it doesn't always fail right away. Keep on the lookout for weird noises or activities from the engine. Sounds like the filter may have kept the water from getting sucked in too bad, but became so waterlogged air had a hard time getting through and was choking the engine.

You know that cai extension is more a pain in the *** than it is worth. We did a dyno run with mine and actually lost hp with it. I took it off and got 5hp back. I say lose it before you damage something.

CAIs aren't worth all the extra annoyance for their supposed gains. The fear of hydrolocking every time you drive near a puddle is enough for me to never put one on a car I own.

Either or, you got lucky. I would take the filter off and dry it out completely before you start going anywhere with it again.

Yeah, CAI is too much trouble. This si what you do. Short ram intake, sleepy eyes, removed lower air box, vented light cover and bam, ram air status. :-D

I totally agree that the CAI's are not worth the extra dough and hassle. I had it one on my car and one dark rainy night, i went over a huge puddle i didn't see and it sucked up so much water into my engine that it died right away. I had to get a whole new engine and ever since then, everytime it rained, the fear of that incident occuring again was always in the back of my mind. But that car is sold so now the nightmare belongs to someone else.
