It is pouring down here in sc due to the hurricane. I parked my Z because the roads were too flooded and I didn't want to ruin my car. I called my father to come and pick me up and take me to my house and then I could get my car once it clears. But for some reason he thought he could drive it back. I trusted him and we were off. But he decided to turn down a street that was completely flooded and I tried to tell him not to go down that way but screaming and honking my horn. But he did it anyway and 30 sec later he was pushing it off the road. Then once we put it in some random persons driveway he tried to start my it about 80 times so now all the possible damage that could be down has happened. This happened like 20 min ago. This really sucks I don't know what to do... I know I'm new to the forums but if eveyone could share this and get everyone's options/ ideas to what I should do it would really help me out. Thanks guys. :frown:

Are you absolutely sure it hydrolocked? If it did, trying to turn it over would cause all kinds of noise, grinding, clanking, sooooo many odd noises. It will not smoothly turn over.

My suggestion, let it dry out for 4 or so days, check fuses, or take a hairdryer to connections and sensors (carefully). I almost hydrolocked my tt a while ago, it didn't run right for almost a week. Water can damage the MAF, CAS, TPS. Pull some plugs, see what they look like.

Check engine codes as well, but if you have grinding when you crank it, might need to look for a new engine. If its smooth, you might be ok.

If you can get it to a dry location, keep it indoors, pull the spark plugs out and put a dehumidifier on near it, that would make a big difference. The reason you pull the spark plugs is to allow air to get into the engine and allow the water to evaporate. That being said after the water has been removed from the engine you will want to run a few drops of oil into the spark plug holes to lubricate the cylinders to keep the water from corroding the cylinder or the piston or the piston rings.

Drying out connectors is not a bad idea either, but unfortunately no matter how hard you try some of them will get corroded. Even if it doesn't show right away, a few months down the road you may start having all sorts of electrical issues. If you have insurance, I would recommend taking it to a shop to have them assess the damage once the car dries out. If you decide the car is fine, and don't report it to insurance, and then 3 months later it starts having electrical issues and fries the pcm or bcm, you will be stuck with the bill and your insurance company won't be willing to get involved.

We just had some severe flooding a few weeks ago where I live and every shop in town was crowded for days getting cars in to be looked over. It's almost impossible to submerge an engine bay in water and not see some kind of negative effects afterwords. Engine bays are meant to be dry, and no matter how much they try to keep it out, water will still work its way into something.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck man. Good luck getting it going again!

Any luck with it yet? Friend of mine took the plugs out of his motor when it hydrolocked and dumped a little oil in each cyl. let it sit for a couple days and took a breaker bar on the crank pully and broke it free. hes still driving it and it burns no oil.

yea my dad is friends with a local shop owner so we took it there and we tried every trick in the book. After about 3 days of trying we assume its something more serious. the insurance guy should come and determine if it is totaled or give us compensation to rebuild the engine.
