There are a few people in the Maxima/I30 forum that are deathly afraid of hydro lock.

Even with short rams.

As such, I thought this thread was only befitting for everybody. It's from a honda forum.

Hydrolock only happens to retards.... Even i've had a CAI on a lowered civic, with a ram air duct in the lower bumper to the filter. Even in a major rainstorm, the worst you will get is a wet filter, not even close to hydrolock. To hydrolock, you need to submerge your ENTIRE filter underwater, and open up the throttle. That means a puddle or pond needs to be at least two feet deep to even consider hydrolock. Even if you submerge PART of your filter, it won't suck up any water. you need to dip the whole filter and the whole end of the CAI in order to get enough vacuum to suck up water.

I wouldn't say we are deathly afraid.

Infact that is the 1st I've even seen anyone really worried about that.

On here anyway...

Talk about submerged, those dudes freaking rocked that car.

I drove a 93 sentra through two feet of water once. It started running like crap when I got out, seeing as it sucked a crapton of water past the filter. I just drove it for a mile until it smoothed out. I TRIED to hydrolock that car and I couldnt do it.

Take a look in the Maxima/I30 forum. You'll find quite a few especially when comparing CAIs.

I "had" to build a stroker engine for my jackass buddy who couldn't keep his hand away from the starter right after he hydrolocked.

I saw one instance and that was two people who were a little worried.

I wouldn't consider it hysteria.

I don't see the problem. Just as everyone else said, I don't know about you but I'm not taking my Max into a lagoon anytime soon!!

The only Nissan that belongs in water is the Nissan Patrol.

Thats how much water you need to hydrolock a Maxima or I30.

About a week ago, I managed to hydro-lock my 2005 Nissan Sentra. I went through a flooded street and about 2/3 into the puddle, my car hydro-locked. I towed it to the mechanics the next morning (it happened at night) and sure enough, there was water in my engine. After the mechanic took off the spark plugs, and pushed the water out, the engine started right up. There is a little bit of a problem with the engine, the ignition will climb almost to 2000 rpm and then drop back down to 1000 rpm. I am taking it back to the mechanic today to see if maybe it needs a tune up. I don't think I bent a rod or anything, because there is no knocking or other suspicious sounds in the engine. I will see after today though.

Don't be a d!ck. After I had my Cobra for a couple months, I hydrolocked it. When I bought it, it had an intake that went down and was situated behind the passenger side front tire. I was driving on the way to school on I-95, when I hit a puddle doing no more than 40 mph. There was construction on the road so the water was pooling really bad. Not a whole lot I could do in the situation. In hind sight, I wish I would have shut it off, gone though the puddle, and then popped the clutch to start it again. Hind sight is 20/20.

Anyway, don't be a d!ck.

My old Acura had a CAI with a bypass (just in case). One summer we had a freak torrential rainstorm where the roads overflooded because the storm drains could not handle he amount of rain. I drove through water almost half up to my door. I gunned it to higher road. There was a Jetta beside me that stalled. I only briefly stumbled. I was glad I had the bypass.
