I read on the courtesy website that the tensioner cannot be reset, I dont see why it would be a problem to reset it, and my WRX runs the same type of tensioner and can be reset as per the Subaru FSM. so my question is will it be extremely detrimental to reset the tensioner and then release the hold bolt once it and the timing belt are on?
Thanks Anton
If you're talking about reusing the old tensioner, I've done that, but the old one was only about 15k old.
To do the timing belt, you need to tighten the bolt down to get the belt on, then release the bolt and adjust the mounting points of the tensioner so that there is 4mm of extension on the hydraulic extension.
