After reading a bit about Q45's I decided to bite the bullet and import one from Japan (Right Hand Drive). After many months of pure frustration with government procedures it arrived here in Australia mid January. No Owner /service manuals and onone in Australia knows anythng about Q45's. Maybe I should have checked it out first. However, being an old rev head (I also have a restored '46 Ford V8) I need to show the young kids around here what V8 power is all about. But now I'm in trouble, the A/Con compressor is siezed, I loosened the tension on the hydraulic pump belt to get at the A/c compressor and oil from the Power steering/hydraulic suspension pump pissed out all over the place. What I need are diagrams and information on how to remove and repair the A/C and hydraulic power steering/suspension system. I have a strong feeling this is going to be a very expensive slow process but I have just as strong a feeling that the time spent will be worth the effort. Oh yeh! what are ACCUATORS and/or ACCUMULATORS in relation to the suspension on the Q45. When I registered you wanted to know details about where I lived, It sub tropical ie humid, summer tops 34 degrees and winter gets down to 9 degrees centergrade. Any Info to get my Q45 pumping will be greatly appriceated. I have not been able to drive it yet and it killing me!!!!!!!!

In Japan about 88-90% of sold Presidents were the active version [Q45a] vs 10-12% in US. [Got that from an old car article]

Whole car importers be aware of the model you order.

Thanks Q45techCan you tell me just what activates the suspension? Is it hydraulic, air, electric? Initally I thought it was hydraulic but after reading the posts I am thinking that the hydraulic pump that dumped oil every where is only for the power steering. Can you tell me where I can get a service manual for the Q? I know there are some differences between your left hand drive cars and my RHD but at least I will have something to guide me. All I have now is a magic car that I can't drive. One of my mates suggested that this was a dual pump that operated the power steering as well as the suspension. The ID plate has the following numbers:- E-HG50HG50-000770NHG50XAED16D11665FWHEN I need parts who would you recommend I order them from? You mentioned Presidents! Were these cars called Presidents at some stage??? And how do I tell if I have a Q45a or just a Q45?

The actives do have a dual pump... half for the power steering, half for the active suspension. Your car definately has the Active suspension... the hoses and extra stuff on the top of the strut towers is the clue.

The cousin to the Q in Japan is the Nissan President. Apparently they sold some as the Infiniti Q45 and some as the Nissan President in Japan.

Looks like the car has been sitting up for a while judging by the corrosion, especially on the runners. Kind of neat to see some things "backwards" though... Weird to see the master cylinder on the right side for me.

Texasoil rebuilds accumulators - if I can get my work laptop to get online I will forward notes that he sent me about active suspension. His accumulators are much more reasonalbe than buying from the parts dept. The accumulators leak their nitrogen over time rendering a harsh ride as they flatten out.

Could you post more pics? I'm curious to see what differences the JDM Q/President has compared to our US versions.

Wow, another Q45 in brisbane. I've seen a few about recently actually(2 or 3). Parts aren't fun to get, Nissan dont even stock an oil filter in australia for these cars, so its either get the parts from Japan or the US. I'm going to need to order some parts from somewhere soon. Who did you import the car through?

G'Day SiGreat to know that there is another Infiniti owner in Brisbane, we'll have to get in touch. Nissan Gold Coast imported about 16 cars in 1994. A bloke that sold me his owners manual said he paid $145000 for his new. My son has been importing Skyline GTR'S for a while now, so he took care of all the details for me. Give me a call. (07) 32738299 Home any time. 0414824231 mob. before you order your parts as my son may be able to help you. He got substitute filters and belts locally for me. Have you found anyone that knows anything about "A" suspension?

tkd_q45If I can't find anyone locally Texasoil seems to be my best bet. You guys have given him big raps. However, as I am retired and $$$ are short....well you know! I have imported stuff for the '46 Ford from "Bob Drake" in the States and by the time it's landed in Aust. the price is more than DOUBLE with exchange rates, freight & insurance & other stuff. Be fantastic if you could send the notes. The car is in a workshop at the moment so will post more engine pics later.

Thanks for the info. Two resivors and one pump had ME totally confused. I have found a tech. in Brisbane who has worked on Soarers & Lexus do you know if they have a similar suspension setup?

The engine bay is a bit cleaner now (what are the runners)than when it arr. in A ust.I mentioned that I had trouble getting it into the country. The car sat in a holding yard in Japan for 8 months. Government red tape and the fact that new car imports get priority on the car carriers over Second hand ones, caused most of the delay. The full story would make a short short story. BUT I really wanted MY Q45!!!!! I'll do a bit of research on the Nissan President. Thanks

I think that some of the soarers came with active suspension like the Q's. They also came with the airbag suspension which is more common, but i think some did have hydraulics so you would think there would be someone somewhere that knows something about the system! As for my Q45 it had the active suspension swapped out for adjustable JIC Magic coilovers and then dropped on its nuts.

Did you have any trouble with the compliance? Another thing, where did you get your oil filter from? The fuel filter was easy but havent managed to get an oil filter yet.

I assume the JIC units failed? How? Which ones were they? I think you are the only one to fit them to a G50.

Q45 were in the JDM for 5 or 6 years.

Ahh sorry, should have been a bit more clear. It was dropped on its nuts using the JIC coilovers. Even with the height adjusted right up, its still really low and only just above the legal limit here of 100mm. The car came with this suspension from japan and it was about 3 inches off the ground, if not a bit less.

Hi SiMy son tells me he had no trouble getting the filters and A/C belt "off the shelf" from AUTO BARN. The Company that does the compliance for the Skylines is going to be doing the Q and as far as I am aware there will be no problems with the compliance as the engineer has seen the car and just has to get the approved seat belts. The side intrusion bars have been done and all the fluids and gasses have been changed/flushed and/or replaced. However, I will have to get the Power steering/suspension pump fixed before I can get a Road Worthy Cert. The other problem I posted today was that I can't remove the key from the ignition. I guess that will have to be fixed before I can get the RWC. Mate, I'm 61 and some of this modern lingo leaves me floundering. "JIC Magic Coilovers" I'm just comming to terms with "Active Suspension" I've spent the last few weeks reading as many posts as I can, some of the terms are fallin' into place but for most of it I'm in the dark. As I say give me a call 3273 8299.
