I've had my rocker arms and shafts sitting on my workbench for the past 3 months, and I'm finally about ready to reinstall them as part of my engine rebuild project. My question is, how can I bleed the air out of them (possibly before I install the motor) providing they're all good and working properly?

submerge them in oil right side up(flat spot down) and stick an unbent paper clip in the hole. then you press it down over and over untill it has built up resistance.

Hey Chris, isn't there a little ball thing in there? If you keep pressing on the ball, all the air and oil shoots out the side hole. Would it still be necessary to keep pressing even though it's not building any resistance in that case?

i guess not but i usually notice it getting stiffer like a brake pedal. if you have most of the air out the rest will pump out as the engine runs. if its totally dry it will never pump up.

the fsm acually says to run the engine under no load at 1,000 RPM for 20 minutes to bleed the air out, but like chris said, if they are completely dry they wont pull enough in

ok, just submerge in oil overnight. they will pump up when the motor runs. may take a while though.

Thanks for the reply Chris! I'm so paranoid of my valvetrain giving out on me again now that my motor's assembled. I was praying that I assembled it correctly. lol
