Hey guys, may be a dumb question, I was cleaning my HLA's. Initially I could not depress them, but when I took a small probe and inserted it into the top hole, I was able to bleed some crud out of it & now it compresses in & out. Currently they are resting in clean oil.

Question is did I screw them up or is this normal? Thanks!

From what I've read, that's what you want to do. I'm going to be doing mine this week and I'm planning on doing that while submerged in oil. I would definately still like to hear from anyone else who has actually done it.

submerge in oil, put wire in hole, pump lifter till hard. Repeat 32 times. Keep them upright until you are ready to assemble the head, I like to keep them submerged in oil too just to be safe.
