OK, so most of the newbies don't know me, but the old heads know that I'm an audio/video guy. My system started failing one piece at a time (1st mono block amp, then front left woofer, then audison bit one processor) and I was stuck on the East coast with no custom shop that I liked so I had no sound.

Then I moved back to the West coast and decided to revamp my system

Deck:
Kenwood DNX 8120, w/ Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and DVD-Audio decoder

Amplifiers/Sound orocessors:
Rockford Fosgate Power T400-4 4channel amp
Rockford Fosgate Power T600-4 4 channel amp
Rockford Fosgate Power T1500-1cbd mono amp
Audison Bitone Sound processor/active crossover

Front Stage:
Infinity Reference 3.5" Center Channel (for DVD video and DVD audio in 5.1 dolby)
Hybrid Audio Technologies 3.7" Legatia L3SE midrange/fullrange
Hybrid Audio Technologies 6.5" Legatia L6V2 midbass

Rear Fill:
Boston Acoustics SL95 6x9"

Woofer:
Rockford Fosgate Power T2 12"

System has no tweeters, and needs no tweeters! The 3.7" Legatia L3Se may be the cleanest speaker that I have ever heard. Cleaner than Rainbows, Focals, and on par with Dynaudio esotars for a fraction of the price. Any car audio enthusiast on here should really consider swapping out their components for some of Hybrid Audio's stuff. Read up on the company, read up on the awards these speakers have won, check the price, compare them to what you have... men lie, women lie, numbers don't... Scott Buwalda has created a truely phenomenal set of speakers with his Legatia line!

Pictures coming soon... personal listening available for anyone in the LA area... or you can come to the SDCE Palomar Run on August 25th

That's the most impressive thing about Hybrid Audio, they have a line of products for every audio enthusiast... from OEM replacement to super high end Hi-Fidelity. And at every level, the performance is better than the competition at a better price. Hybrid Audio is like the "Blue Magic" of the audio world...lol. Anyway, if you're interesed in replacing your speakers, consider H.A.T. for your next upgrade.

Also, just a word of caution, anyone considering the high end Legatia series, I would highly suggest using a sound processor w/ active cossovers if possible (audison bitone is my recommended unit). But if not, HAT makes passive crossovers for 2 way (L2X) and 3 way (L3X) component setups as well. Please feel free to PM me with questions, or if you're in LA, we can meet up and I can give a listening demo on my off weekends!

Scott, thanks for dropping a note, and thanks for making top quality car audio equipment that everyone can afford. I spoke with Robert Morrow and he suggested that I try the L3SE's w/o tweeters.. good suggestion! I hear that you are running L3SE's with L8SE's (with no tweeters) in your G35 and the sound is incredible...

Holy shnikeys!!!!!! That's all so incredible! I love your trunk! It really seems like you kept a lot of room in the trunk by integrating the spare tire space into your amp mounts and stuff, do you actually use your trunk? Or do you not dare put cargo on that acrylic?

oh no, trunk is for show only... luggage and groceries go in the backseat... and if they can't fit there... somebody's taking a taxi from the airport! :chuckle:

I would try to record some dvd audio, but I don't think anything would do it justice... you just have to listen to it in person... guys and girls, I can't stress to you enough... go here http://store.12velectronics.com/categor ... hnologies/ , and search for your next speaker replacement according to your budget...

Hahaha I completely understand and I'm glad you feel that way about your gorgeous audio work!!

I have a question regarding amp ventilation. I want to cut out some of the styrofoam under the trunk mat and make a space for a small d-class amp (large enough for one alpine type s or r 10 or 12). I don't want to delete my spare, I just had to use it when I ran over some metal and blew a tire :/ I want to make just enough room for that small amp, my question is, "Is it safe to run an amp all the time surrounded by styrofoam underneath my trunk mats? I don't know how hot amps get but I notice you have three below some acrylic. Are these vented? Should I run 12v fans to ventilate the area?

Please enlighten me.

btw the sub will be a single in a wheel-well fiberglass box.

Amps get pretty hot, and should always be in an area with access to cool air. If you recall, the factory amplifier is safely hidden underneath the foam in the trunk already... it should be noted, however, that the factory amp is a pretty weak amp that is not drawing or putting out much power.

If you're running a sub amp, it will get considerably hotter than the factory amp. I think it would be ok with the proper ventilation. And yes, my amp rack is vented on multiple sides, with two 12 volt fans, one blowing in cool air, and the other sucking out hot air.

Okay thanks!! Sorry for the thread jack too. I have the non-bose system so I wasn't aware of any factory amp.. hmm maybe I have one too? I am going to do a lot of research because I want the perfect setup for me. Thanks for showing us HAT, I wasn't aware of them!

no problem about the thread jack... ok, if you have the non bose system, I don't think you have an amp, but you can definitely cut out a stable platform for your amp into the styrofoam... with the proper drills, I'm sure you can have a nicely vented area!

In regards to setting up the perfect system for you, I completely understand. that was my goal also, hence my journey into the perfect front stage...

1st - OEM BOSE setup - hated it.. distortion at high volumes... poor imaging... uhhh
2nd - Boston Acoustics ProSE - components... poor midbass, bright tweeters
3rd - JL audio W1 6.5 sub/midbass , MB Quartz (German made) 3.5" mid range + 1" tweeter 3-way component with Audiocontrol active crossover.. good, not great sound
4th - Diamond Audio Hex s600 6.5" midbass+ 4" midrange, and 1" tweeter with Audison bitone active crossover... really liked this setup, tons of compliments, the audison can really make an OK system sound incredible
5th - Hybrid Audio Technologies 7.1" Legatia L6v2 midbass + 3.7" Legatia L3SE midrange /full range 2 way component w/ audison bitone sound processor/active crossover... people are floored by the sound quality... I will never put another aftermarket speaker in any of my cars other than HAT

So again, I know you want the perfect setup, but I can't emphasize enough that you will be selling yourself short (like I did) by going with other companies... now, are there other great audio companies out there... ABSOLUTELY... but is there another company that makes better products from the price... NO... if you can, try to listen at at local audio shop that carries HAT... or go on blind faith based on the awards those speakers have won... either way, I think you will be happy with the results...

and by the way, if you don't want to go all out and get a sound processor etc, its fine... HAT's entry level, and Junior high-end lines come with passive crossovers, and they even make 2-way and 3-way crossovers for use with their high-end speakers that don't naturally come with crossovers!

Yeah I was looking at their products and I could see getting the stage two stuff with passive crossovers. I used to have a set of two way 6.5 alpine type r's and I was never very impressed with them. So for a similar price I could pick these up and give them a shot!!

I try not to think about it to be honest...

Alpine makes good stuff, good head units, amps, and woofers... they even have a very decent add on sound processor for some of their units...

I can honestly say... after utilizing the audison bit one, I could never go back to using passive crossovers without a sound processor... the audison has built in digital time alignment (DTA) for up to 8 individual speakers. The human ear can actually hear differences in sound sources even a few milliseconds apart. A DTA allows you to adjust each individual speaker and delay the time so that all speakers output their sound a few milliseconds apart, and the sound all comes together to hit your ears at the exact same time. This is not done in systems without DTA, and to the discerning ear, it is VERY noticeable and annoying. In other words, the more finely tuned your ears become, the harder it is to satisfy them, and the more you are constantly tuning and tweaking your system to get it perfect.

now, back to your comment about loudness... most systems begin to distort at very high volumes.... if you have a passive crossover, its even worse because you are asking a few coiled wires to seperate frequencies for you, and this doesn't hold up too well with increased power driving the speaker. With an active crossover, you can get more clean power to each speaker because you are digitally limiting the frequencies that will ever even reach the speaker. My system, and others like it, can be played at very high volumes for extended periods of time with absolutely no distortion. That is just one of the tell tale signs of a well tuned system. Other guys on here (applebonker, DJ BEASY) are also audio nuts and could probably explain much of this as well.

There is a lot that you can do to your system to get it to play loud, and it doesn't have to involve adding two and three component setups like I see at some local car shows... more important than loud is clean and loud!

Oh i know... I was looking at DD's but with the Type R still sitting and collecting dust, i think ill just utilize it. Im waiting till spring or summer to determine what kind of an audio build i will go for. Im drooling with anticipation.

Haha I thought of that too when he put those pics up :p!!

I am well aware of timing audio signals, my dad and uncle are both incredible sound technicians ! We've installed a few pa's together too. I had no idea that you could do the same in a car but I can tell you that I am able to hear the different "attacks" as I would call them. I often hear my front left speakers and then the rest of the speakers during any kind of high frequency pitch. Whether that's a vocal track and an "s" sound or something percussive like a snare.
