So I just got the car back from the shop, probably put less than 200 miles on it running no more than 20 psi since the HX35 was put on, and I see smoke bellowing out of the hood :(

**PICS DELETED**

Thing is, it was only smoking from the engine bay and not the exhaust! (afaik)

It looks like the feed/drain lines may have been the culprit, but those are both new. IIRC, a .078 restrictor to the feed. Now I'm worried the drain may have been too small. Will get back to you guys on the size. FML

At least these things are relatively cheap to rebuild. I'm just really pissed at the whole PITA of fixing this s*** up so soon, and the fact this s*** didn't come up while it was being tuned! :tisk:

Think I should bother with getting the turbo rebuilt? I can hear a slight grind (sounds like the bearings) when it spools. This was a freshly rebuilt Holset too

Well, back in business! Turned out to be a stupid o-ring on the 90degree feed fitting. Smoke was the turbo blanket catching fire a couple times... lol! (Really lucked out car didn't burn down when i just said f*ck it and let it be)

Turbo sounds healthy again (Holset=robust), still spools like buttah. I didn't bother checking for play, but I've got a rebuild kit handy. If someone wants a kit for HX30-40, shoot me a PM and we can talk.. otherwise it'll sit in the garage till the time comes.

Feed should be good with the 0.78 restrictor from what I've read on the DSM forums. Drain should be -10 at minimum, which is what I've got.

Moral of story: double chick all fittings/o-rings. This turbo was sold to me as refurbished/rebuilt, and the shaft had no play, but looks like they lef the original o-ring. A couple of the DSM folks have had issues with leaking fittings as well. Oh, and turbo blankets are probably not worth the risk!

My hx35 has some play, I am interested to see how "robust" they are!
