Well I was changing out the exhaust manifold gasket when noticed a lot of side to side play on the turbo. The turbo only has about 2 thousand miles on it since it was rebuilt. When I started to rip it apart to rebuild it, I took the compressor housing off and found this:

It doesn't look like its chipped, it looks like it was done on purpose (Maybe to rebalance the wheel?). In addition, the fin on the other side of the wheel has some damage where it looks like it came into contact with housing. So the questions I have are:
New compressor wheel or try to get it rebalanced?
Could this have messed up the turbine shaft?
Anyone know where I can get the turbo rebalanced in Albany or Binghamton, NY?

Both of my hx35's have that little notch, I also had one go bad and the intake compressor hit the housing slightly. I got a rebuild kit and care fully reassembled it up making sure i marked the location of the compressor on the shaft. Still rockin and rollin. I would say depending on how bad the damage is just rebuild it. but it's hard to say without seeing it.

It's the very tip of the fin next to the notch. There isn't any material missing it's just bent.

Looks like you filled a notch on the wheel for reference before you removed it! :dblthumb: IMO i would just file that bent piece smooth again and rebuild that thing. Did you take the rest apart? How bad out of spec are the brass bushings? One of mine was out a LOT.

That notch on the bottom is made that way. I belive its for balancing. Alot of compressor wheels are made that way.

The bearings were quite bad. There was a pretty good sized gap between the old bearings and the shaft.

Thanks to both of you for your input.
