What do you need the illumination of the actual dimmer? Illumination is red/black but I don't know the other one off the top of my head (if there is another one)

i want to cut it because i put a red filter in and it's a little too dim with the headlights on - i have my cluster dimmed - so i want to cut it so i can see it well at night. did it to the clock already but can't find the DIMMER wire for the heater display - wouldn't want to cut the illumination one instead

wouldn't a voltmeter tell you?

The line power will be at whatever the battery voltage is.

The dimmer will be at something else.

Alternatively, with a voltmeter you could test which wire has continuity back to the main dimmer switch.

Just a thought.
