Just wondering if anyone else here has run into this issue and has an idea of what causes it?

The dial indicators for my wife's 09' Versa hatch have small white bubbles showing up everywhere. It's almost like there is a clear coat over the dial indicators and it's bubbling up then hardening.

If you scratch the bubbles off it leaves a small shiny area where the bubble used to be.. It looks like this:

It started getting really bad after I was cleaning her car regularly, but I've used this interior cleaner (Detailer's Pro series interior surface protectant) on numerous other cars without this problem showing up.

After seeing it on other Versas I'm wondering if this is common? I'm planning on replacing the base controller but it's a $175 part from courtesy.. so I'd like to make sure it doesn't end up happening again.

I've seen it on two of the four Versa's we've had. Not yet on the 2012, but I've only had it two and a half months!

I can't figure out what's causing it.. we hardly ever touch the HVAC controls and I've stopped cleaning the interior, but it seems to still be getting worse for some reason.

My dad has an '07 hatchback and his controls look fine =S

I Have an 07 hatch and had the same issue. someone in another post had suggested using the cloth polishing wheels on a dremel to remove that top layer of plastic. Well I went ahead and tried it out. Results are mixed. While the bubbles are gone and that whitish layer is gone its really hard to get a smooth layer on the remaining plastic. Turns out the labels are painted on a thin piece of plastic that is placed in the control. When you get down to that level I noticed that layer was bubbling a bit as well and was causing the un-smooth surface. SO as I said yes it looks better once you do it BUT it's not a total solution.

High speed is the cause of bubbling and wrong alignment is also main cause of bubbling.
