Hurst is a company that makes shifting hardware and accessories for transmission. Go do some internet searching to find out more info, you could have done that in the first place and found the same information.

hurst is actually a company that makes shifters...mostly for old muscle cars...haven't seen any on anything new...You probably read in the other thread where the guy said he wanted to put a hurst shifter on his automatic...he meant ratchet shifter.....and those are out of any reasonable price range....atleast for our car so far..maybe some company will make a cheap one

Yes, Hurst is a copany that makes all different kinds of transmisson and shifter products. Hurst shifter is a generic term for rachet style auto-transmission shifters.... as I believe they were among the first to design such a thing. They are certainly more popular on older muscle cars... but are still being redesigned and applied to brand new cars. They are huge among the Corvette and Mustang guys.

Some of the best drag cars in the world have auto-trannys and use a Hurst or other rachet style shift mechanism. There are a lot of reasons for this... but mostly because the actual shift is always 100% accurate (no missed gears) and an auto can shift faster than ANY human being. There is a bit more torque loss in a stock auto (hence the drastic drop in RPMs as it shifts), but a properly built auto can easily overcome that problem.
