hurrah for Nico.

A General Discussion forum for cars and other topics, and a great place to introduce yourself if you are new to NICO!

I'm glad we finally updated the forum software to fit in with the rest of the internet. Something could probably be done with the theme / stock buttons on the forum, or overall design at that :) - but hey something is better than nothing!

I'm not really in the general forum very often, but I was wondering if the idea of charging for NICO has ever come up? Sort of like a premium service to get the Ads to go away? Not the sponsored ones, but the ASK and Google ads stuff is really kind of tacky, I'd be willing to chip in to get them removed :). JUST AN IDEA!

The only thing you could charge people for would be content, and that would just be stupid.

You are more then welcome to donate to Nico if you want to give them money, but if your goal is removing the ads why would you ever pay when you could just use a browser like firefox and an ad removal plug in?

I wonder if that has any impact on how many times their ad gets viewed, or if they just go by NICO's page view count.

^ This.

We've worked pretty hard to make the advertising as unobtrusive as we can, while still encouraging members to support the vendors that support NICO... Our annual overhead is astronomical, but one thing I've always been very clear on is that we will NEVER charge people for information. Ever.

In my opinion, sites that DO this should pass the revenues on to the people who provide the information.

We don't even make people register to access the information contained herein, and that's the way it's staying. :)

Ahh - I'm actually using IE. I know, hate me more! I've got my own reasons for not using Firefox (mostly because I'm just very picky) -- but I was never implying that this turn into some hokey pay site that segregates the community. Just showing some love for Nico

Is it? Or does Chrome also feature that ad blocking option? AdBlock is a particular ad blocker, not just the generic name. Last I saw they weren't working on chrome.
