I just bought my G35 this past weekend and I want to get my windows tinted. I saw a little discussion on Edmunds message board about Huper Optik's Ceramic tint being pretty high quality for keeping the UV out and the interior much cooler. Does anyone have any experience with on this board? Any recommended installers in Southern California? One last question, for CA does anyone know what the allowable tint % is?

Hey there... welcome!(Got pics?)

As to the materials, I don't have any experience, but regarding an installer, I understand that there is a good one in the city of Orange. I've heard good things about them. They are at Katella and Glassell.

http://www.mikestintshop.com/

I am getting ready to make a visit to them myself.

Hope that helps. Please let us know how your experience goes no matter where you have it done!

Thanks for the tip on the installer. I'll definitely check them out to learn more about this option.

I'm really happy about my Garnet colored (Red) G35. And I've got an appointment to change out the wheels/tires this Thursday. I'll snap some pictures the end of this week and let the board judge my selection. Once I decide on the tint job, I'll resubmit some more pics!

Best stuff on the market, BAR NONE.

I had the FIRST car in AZ with it installed (my work vehicle, a 2001 Interceptor, black) and it's simply amazing.

I now have it on my G35 Coupe.

I just gave Mikes Tint Shop a call. Their website looks nice, but I really didn't like the sales guy who answered the phone. He wouldn't give me any ballpark pricing on the ceramic tint job for the G35. I don't know if he was in a hurry or just unknowledgeble, but he just kept saying come down and make an appointment. Also he says they don't carry Huper Optik but carry something "way better", a brand called Llumar.

Again, I don't know anything about tinting, but people seem to swear by Huper Optik, so I'm going to keep searching for an installer who carries it.

I would try to send these guys an email to ask if there s any authorized shop in your neighburhood. Or maybe order a precut for your car and get any local shop to install it for you.

I used the website to find a local installer. Filled out their questionnaire and got an email reply in about an hour. Pretty quick. So now I've got an appointment this Saturday with Perfect Window Tint in Costa Mesa, CA. I don't know if they are a big operation, but the guy made me feel comfortable over the phone with his experience.

All four windows and the back for $475. The Huper Optik tint ranges from 60, 50, 40, and 30%. It doesn't get darker than that, I'm told. That is ok, as I really don't want any fix it tickets from the local law enforcement. I'll keep the board posted and upload some pics this coming weekend.

Okay ... my appointment for the ceramic tint is this Saturday. But I just switched off my 17" OEM wheels to the following 18" ones. I think a larger 20" wheel would have been sweet, but this ride is mainly for my girlfriend and the feedback we got was 20" wheels would look nice but you would sacrifice ride quality/comfort. Also the larger wheels would create more wear and tear on the vehicle's brakes, control arm, etc. I don't know about all that, but it was enough for my girlfriend to force me to stay within OEM guidelines of the vehicle, hence the 18" only. When I get the tint done, I'll put up some more pics. Meanwhile here is the ride.

I'm interested in how much it costs. The ceramic UV protection would be nice in the blazing Sacto summer sun.

I was quoted $475 for Huper Optic tint job. Again, my appoint is this Saturday, so I'll see if there are any hidden costs. But I was told that price was out the door.

Side note: What people's thoughts on the "clear bra"? Is that just a luxury to have or do people think it is near necessity to protect the vehicle?

Best part of the Huper does not interfer your cellphone signal or satellite reception. I believe it is one of, if not the best product on the market. It is an exelent option for you. It is a littlebit pricey but worth every penny.

Ok, just got my tint yesterday. I got the 40%. There is one darker at 30%, but the installer said 40% was most common and what he would recommend with my lighter interior. So the tint appearance is a bit understated and doesn't have that "blackout" look, but I like it.

However, what I was most impressed with is the blocking of the UV and Heat rays. I always drive with my left arm hanging on the window sill area. I can always feel the rays on my arm and when I travel alot, my left arm is always tanner than my right. Well, immediately I noticed that with the tint, I did not feel the suns rays beating on my arm. Very cool! That should help my interior last longer as well in the California sun. Well here are the pics. You can compare them a little to earlier pics in the thread with no tint.

Looks really really good. Matches with interiorand exterior also. I wouldn't go darker either with the color combination you've got.

I love it.

You didn't say anything about your experience with the installer. Were you happy with the company and the way they treated you? Was the price really the out the door price?

I was sorry to hear about your phone experience with Mike's, and I might be interested in going to see Perfect about my tint.... however, I'm still reeling from the fact that you bought your girlfriend a G Sedan!!! I think I would have bought the G for me, and given her the Vespa!! lol (jk)

LOL ... The Vespa is also hers!!!! But that thing is fun to ride as well.

Yes it was $475 complete. This is a very small operation. They are basically one of those operations in Santa Ana off of Harbor Blvd with the Garage Door opening. I gave them 5 $100 bills and they didn't have change. Kind of funny. Had to give them $400 and then run the credit card for $75. But the guys were very professional and helpful. Not pushy at all. Knowledgable and detail oriented. They had other cars, BMWs, etc. they were working on, so I felt comfortable from the get go. I guess one really doesn't need a big space if all you do is install tints. I would recommend them and most importantly they carried Huper Optik and not the other brand Mike's Tint tried to push on me over the phone.

Looks awesome - I am NOT a fan of real dark tint either, and the "trend" is towards completely clear glass (so as to show off the interior).

Great investment - It's too bad there's so much misinformation out there about tint.

Wow, you got a Garnet G35 too! There was only one other in Southern California with the interior / options I wanted. It was slim pickings, but the dealership I ended at was great.

Anyway, I wanted to throw out some additional information on the Huper Optik tint. It is a very thick film relative to the others on the market. So it can take many weeks for all of the water/air bubbles/haze/etc to settle out. You have to look hard but there is a haze between the film and window. I was told that the timeframe for complete settling depends on where you park. If outdoors in the sun, things will dry out much faster and could be set in a couple of weeks. But if you park in an underground garage, 6-8 weeks could also occur. And also for about the first 7 days, don't roll down your windows. That is the only downfall of the thicker film. But it is of high quality and has a lifetime warranty from Huper Optik, not from the "installer" but from Huper Optik themselves. They stand behind their product.
