humming - Key in Ignition

I'm getting a humming sound when the key is in the ignition, turned to ON - prior to starting the car. This is a 04 G35.

You might say, turn the car all the way on a be done with it! But sometimes I have the key set a ON to hear the radio or run my tire inflator for a few minutes.

Is this hum normal? Is something going out?

I've never really listened for it, but very possible its your fuel pump. The fuel pump turns on when key is in the ON position to prime before starting. If it is the fuel pump it should actually stop after a few seconds if left in that position without starting.

you're also in the desert. The electric fans can come on even when the engine isnt running. Could also be your blower fan, fuel pump, abs pumping action. It could be the flux capacitor, or that catchy tune stuck in your head you're humming along to.

Thanks guys. The sound occurs even when garaged and cool. I'll get the fuel pump checked.
