Started in NYC in a 14th street sub-station.

I don't understand how this can affect multiple states however.I say power company scheme of sorts. My town was fine, we had one brown out, but that was about it.

Canadians are saying it started at Niagra Falls substation. Qualify the source (Crittien) any way you want.

Florida is the cool part of the south...once you get past that, and until you hit middle/upper east coast VA it sucks. Oh atlanta and around there is cool too I guess.

Well, I live in Connecticut, around the Danbury area, and the power went out around 3-3:30 here, as I was polishing and waxing the 240. It was out until just before 9:10, and I was in the 240 still . . . better inside that with A/C and a stereo than inside the house without either of those two. :-) I think Fiznat lives in CT too, we'll see what he has to say, I would imagine. The Canadians say it was a lightning strike, but there weren't any lightning strikes anywhere near Niagra Falls, so as the South Park movie so amazingly predicted a few years ago, "Blame Canada" . . . maybe "Canadian Bacon" wasn't such a unrealistic movie after all. ;-)

yeah I live in Middletown and I was at work when we lost power for like a whole MINUTE.

I got all excited for a second too... thought maybe I could shut the place down and head home but noooo it all had to come right back on. Too bad. I woulda loved to be in NYC when that happened... musta been pretty weird.

Did you know: there was a similar power outage many years ago.

Coverage on tv sounds very similar to what was documented from many years back(don't remember when)

There was almost an entire show on History Channel, A&E, Discovery channel...or whichever show it was...dedicated to the first "major" outage. Amazingly, if I remember, that outage started at or near the niagra power facility.

Hehe. In New Milford, every place was without power. I wasn't working today, but the store I work at closed up around 4:30, from what I've heard. At least I got power back before most others . . .
