General Motors is conducting a safety recall of some 249,260 mid-size SUVs following a preliminary investigation earlier this year by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over door fire risk.

A notice on the NHTSA website identifies the vehicles as certain model year 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Saab 9-7X and Isuzu Ascender SUVs.

Affected vehicles were originally sold or are currently registered in 20 states and the District of Columbia. The states involved include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Wait, I thought Saab went out of business. How can that company recall a car? If that's the case, where is the update for my Netscape browser?

It's really not huge. It's 15 versions of the same single model. One of them has an ignition cylinder by the arm rest. Other than that they're the same truck.

Until this thread I completely forgot about the Ranier. When it came out I remember one of the first customers was some 20 year old kid who made a boatload of money from some internet ventures. Buick went as far as making a press release about their fresher, younger buyers.

I kind of want one because of how insanely quiet and smooth reviewers said they were -- basically a Trailblazer with a metric ton of sound deadening and softer springs. It also had an optional 300hp V8.

The Ranier was by far the ugliest GMT360 product, though. Terrible front end.
