I have a 1990 240sx XE

My heads up display lights do not work!! also the speedo does not work (you see the red lines but no numbers) the clock light works untill you turn on the healights then you don't see any lights at all. I pulled the cluster and looking at it it does not seem that there are any broken soders etc...

There is a slight smell of a shorted circuit/burned electric something under the dash but not in the area around the cluster and the cluster does not smell burned.

All of the fuses are good..

What can I check/replace to get it working?

I would just replace the Hud with a non hud unit but then my Mileage would not be the same (the car only has 69k on it and I don't want a cluster that says 150k+ because if I were to sell it no one would want to buy the car/trust the mileage.

Also if I do have to replace it with a non hud unit how do I roll the miles back to the actual Mileage ?

Thanks!

Well, if you are going to replace it, I believe the odometer unit can be moved from digi - analog cluster. I have done the odometer from digi -> digi before no problem.

It's not about what smells like what, you need to take the cluster out and check the circuitry.

If the circuitry isn't bad, you have to replace the speedo unit and/or cluster itself.

I replaced the little white box under the fuses with one from a junkyard and it did not change anything (I read that it might be the cause) looking at the circuit on the back of the hud it does not look like anything is wrong no broken contacts etc... Stupid hud!!

If I can swap the Odometer then i'll go non hud since these huds break way to easy!
