The HUD on my 89'240sx goes on and off whenever it feels like it. When i turn the car on it comes on, however it starts to dim and then shuts off. If i turn the car off and on again it will be on again but then fade away and not come back for awhile. I figure its a loose connection, however I dont think so because of the fading off it does(im figuring a loose connection would make it not come on at all or at least stay on until i hit a bump or there is too much vibration) not sure which is why im posting this. If anyone else has had this problem and fixed it tell me what you did or how i can find the solution. Or if i should just look for a working HUD over these forums. If you have one you can post it here too if you want.

that really sounds like the display unit itself is bad.

Okay update, it isnt on at all now, nor does it light up when you turn on the car. I did discover though that one of the fuse connections itself is bad. When a test light is put to it nothing happens. Upon taking out the fuse I noticed it wasnt burnt out so the problem now is the fuse connection itself. This may have to do with the speddometer but i dont know yet, i will fix and then see whats up. Any other ideas are good though so post away.

Yeah already been handled that. No power to fuse connections. I am going to remove the fuse box completely and check behind it (connections, wires, etc.) and trace the wire to see if anything is cut not connected. Any thing else to add post.

nope thats it. if you get too frustrated just remember you can run a new wire from the batt to the fuse connections.

Try this. I had a problem with my Prelude 4 wheel steering. It would work sometimes, and not other times. It turned out to be a problem with the relay soder points. I resodered (basically, I re-added soder) the points, mainly the relay points. Ever since, it has worked.

It is a VERY common problem that has 98% of the time solved the issue.

I recommend pulling out the circuit board and re-soder all of the points. Maybe this will finally be the solution to the HUD issue. It can't hurt, you know.
