Hud ghosting?

I don't know if it's just mine or not, but I see a nice second, offset, faded image of whatever number is on the speedometer. Also, I have to focus my eyes right on the windshield to look at the number. In all of the Corvettes and Bonnevilles and such that I have driven, the HUD image always seems to float just forward of the hood, IE that's where you focus your eyes. So is there something wrong with mine or do people just live with it?

I have seen a couple of s13 coupes with a little section of tint right there, but not only does that look a little strange, but I don't know if it's there to cut down on ghosting or because the person replaced the windshield and didn't want to spring for the proper coated one...

Yeah, there is a special sheet of something there on the oem windshield. I don't have a hud myself, but it has special instructions in the manual about protecting it while working in that area...
