HUD doesn't work,odometer does. wtf?

I have wierd problem with my speedo/HUD. awhile back, it just stopped working, both my speedo and my hud, but the odometer still works and keeps acurate mileage (i timed it out on the highway at 30, 60 and 90mph, dead on every time). is there a separate circuit somewhere for the lighting in the unit? i've checked and replaced every fuse i could think of that might even be connected with the HUD. the only other thing i can think of is the dimmer switch. anybody ever heard of anything similar? My backlight on the cluster went out the other day. I found that in my hatch the tail-lights and backlights are on the same fuse. If you look in the box located in the kickpanel it is on the right third from the bottom (blue 15a). I replaced the fuse and both my cluster backlight and tail lights work. Note that I did have brake lights with the fuse blown, just no tail lights.
