I have a problem with my head unit. Half the time when i press a button, the display goes out and then resets. I will touch it, then it will flash, display "Blaupunkt," then "CD (or FM1, etc..)" and then goes back to the regular display. Its almost like a ground is loose, but music keeps playing, and it doesnt even skip. The process takes like 5 seconds, and all the buttons become inoperative. Its not so bad when changing the station or track, but when im trying to go through the menu, i have to go through it over and over. Any ideas?BTW, its a Blaupunkt Casablanca CD51, and it was professionaly installed. When the car is cold it seems to do this more often, and has a harder time accepting CDs.Thanks

How cold? There is an "operating temp" for stereo's and if there's any moisture that may have increased with the cold, then heat from the heater. Is this a new issue? Have you taken it back to the place that installed it and asked their thoughts?

Today it was around 35 degrees and it was doing it. Its not really a new issue, but did not show up after i first got it installed. It does it in warmer weather as well, it just seems to be alot worse when its cold out. I havent taken it back to where i got it installed (The circuit city over in Eastgate, noticed you were from cincy Rex).

Does it have a fold down face? I had an old Kenwood with a fold down face that would do that. At first cleaning the contacts with a little alcohol helped but as it got older it just becam something you had to live with, a remote if opional would probably help.

If it's not too old, take it back to CC and see what they can do. They might not do/be able to do anything, but that would be my first suggestion. As NY94J30 said, if it's a removable/flip down face it could be the contacts and pressure in certain areas of the face plate cause it to tilt/flex away from the contact strip, which is usually along on side or edge.

Just a few ideas.

I'm north near KI and don't think too fondly of CC. Not all, but most, are run by someone who doesn't really understand 12 volt electronics, or worse yet, a kid who's trying to learn about them.

Yea, its a flip down and removable face. I'll try cleaning the contacts, and if it doesnt work, ill take it back to CC. I would have done the instalation myself, but when i baught the car there was an aftermarket JVC deck, and the harness had been cut. I didnt feel like matching all the wires up, it would have been too time consuming. Im in Blue Ash, so next time i need something installed, ill just go to Carl's. Thanks anyways guys, let you know how it turns out.
