Looking to see what the response / feedback is for a Carburetor Gasket kit for the Nikki 2D-30C Carburetor on the early Datsuns with the E-1 Series engine. As this kit is no longer available I looking to have the five gaskets in the below picture made locally. All gaskets will be from top quality material from the year 2014, so nothing that is 50 years old, brittle and falling apart. All gasket would be cut on a water jet to ensure a perfect fit.

Kit would include the Top Body Gasket, Gasket Flange, Top and Bottom Insulator Gasket, Float Bowl Cork/Rubber Gasket, and the Float Bowl inner O-Ring. Sorry no insulator included.

Let me know what you think.

I'm interested in a set of gaskets. Alternately, if anybody has a set of used gaskets in similar condition as what is pictured and wants to send them to me or take some high resolution pictures with a ruler and maybe take to measurements I could try to create some CAD drawings and laser cut some gaskets on my laser cutter. I was playing around the other day with drawing gaskets from pictures and I think I can do it. Theoretically I think my laser cutter can cut gasket material, but I haven't tried yet. -Dylan

Dylan,

I can send you a copy of the main gaskets if you would like. Pretty much the only tough to make is the top gaskets for the throttle body assembly.

A laser cutter is the way to go for the top gasket. I plan on doing some research into these to find their cost, limitations and capabilities.

If you want to send me copies of the main gaskets that would be great! If it works I can send you a set of new laser cut gaskets. I found this instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/Gasket- ... ing-Laser/ which confirms to me that I should be able to make gaskets this way. Do you know what type of material and thickness these gaskets are?

If it works I can make a small run of the gaskets for people on the forum but long term I would rather not deal with the logistics of shipping gaskets. Ideally for me, after the design is done we could find a company to lasercut them for anybody else who wants them. www.Ponoko.com is a place online were someone can post a design and then anybody can order that design to be laser cut. They don't specifically offer things cut out of gasket material right now, but it seems like something they might be open to adding. I will email them to find out. From the little bit I looked at their website before their prices were quite reasonable.

I just use the grey gasket material from O'Reilly's and have had no issues on any of my little 320s.

Mass production - yeah, looked into this and one local business wants around $700-$800 per gasket for an initial order of 100. So that's around $3500-$4000 for 100 sets of the gaskets....sorry just not enough interest to invest in this one.

Let my find the file and I send it your way.

Thanks for the links, I'll check those out.

Well Ponoko.com doesn't want to stock gasket material. I can probably make enough for people who really need then on my own laser cutter. There doesn't seem to be a huge demand.

Dylan,
No sorry, nose stuck in articles and books for most of the week. But not today. I'll get you something this evening. Hard part is making it true to size for when you print it.

For the sake of keeping things tidy I will just keep this all in this thread. I have started to replace some of the gaskets for my carb and in the process did some research on laser cutting.

There is a local business here in Seattle that can laser cut diagrams on relatively thin material. I only managed to scan a couple of the lower gaskets before I thought of doing this so I was hoping someone has a 1:1 copy of the other gaskets so I can try to get something started.

Basically, if anyone can scan the gaskets in the first picture in this thread by Lil Truckie, I can try to get a set laser cut on some gasket material and see how it turns out and get some pricing info. I figured that the amount of time spent on hand cutting the gaskets (took me forever) would be better served doing something else and there might be those of us that would much rather pay some cash for precut ones.

Thanks Andy, I look forward to it. Any ideas what material would be best to use?

I had a Fel-Pro gasket sheet set and used the rubber-fiber as well as the rubber-cellulose sheets. I avoided using the cork sheets in the set for no real reason whatsoever. If there is a better product out there feel free to let me know, I simply just bought what was currently in stock at O'Reilly's.

That's what I use. The gray/black rubber cellulose roll from O'Reilly's.

RG320,

deerio was able to print the gasket with a laser print at a more reasonable price than I could. Gasket are very nice and professional quality - ie way better than you and I could do with a razor blade and exacto knife. I'll shoot him an email and let him know you would like a set.

Thanks Andy. I'm away on vacation and haven't really checked the forums.

But yes, I was able to get some sets made and currently only have 2-3 left... I haven't advertised them out yet as I plan to make very slight revisions to some fragile pieces (narrow areas that can tear easily). But with that being said, whoever wants the ones I currently have let me know and I'll see what we can do... Otherwise, it might be weeks or even months before I can have more made...

Make them like said, use 1/16" thick material. Higher up somebody said the laser cuts were better than you can do yourself but I beg to differ. I make carb gaskets up in a minute on my own stuff and can't tell one from the original. At $40 minimum for any gasket kit you are paying yourself enough to make it worth it to learn the skills and not hard at all.

It's been a while since I've heard of anyone having the gaskets available. Does anyone have the gaskets available for the Nikki? I'm in need of a kit. Help appreciated. Thanks
