SAR Driver Education event at Arroyo Seco Raceway
February 22/23 2014

The Southern Arizona Region of PCA invites you to attend our first 2014 HPDE event.

The Arroyo Seco track is about 17mi. E. of Deming NM. We'll drive CW on Saturday and CCW on Sunday. You will have five, 20 minute run sessions, each day. All novice drivers will have a PCA-certified driving instructor. We welcome Porsche and non Porsche drivers with safe and track-appropriate cars. You can find photos of past DE events (and other SAR events) on our Scrapbook page at <pcasar.biz/scrapbook.htm>. Check out the Arroyo Seco photos there dating back to 2005! Track details are available on our website <pcasar.biz/driving/arroyo_seco.htm>. You will also find links to our annual Tech Inspection Form there, listed under the front-page Driver's education menu. Download, print, fill it out, have it signed by your service representative and bring it along. This is an annual requirement; one submission gets you on track all year long. While you are at our website, see the Driver Education notes about our Taste of the Track andGift Certificate programs.

Check out the 7:00pm Fri/Sat dinners and the Race Central discounted hotel site (The new Holiday Inn Express in Deming NM... [Tel: 575-545-6500 option "0" (zero) and ask for Evana, Julie, or Jessica] Ask for the Porsche Club rate) with a free early breakfast (for registered guests). You may also choose to stay at the track (limited facilities).

Registration is open until Feb 16 but there is an early signup discount. Info and signup at <pcasar.motorsportreg.com>. This event is limited to 35 drivers per day. That means that you can expect few cars during each of your five, 20 minute long sessions.

One more thing. Doing the full 2-day event provides a big advantage. You get to think overnight about your first day, accumulate your questions for your instructor, then go back out for a full day of practice. It's about three days of leaning for the cost of two! The two-day event is highly recommended.

Sounds fun and educational!
Will participants have to bring their own helmets/are helmets required?

YES it is FUN.

No helmet is required for the free (low speed) tour laps. You drive your car and may take multiple occupants with you. This short exercise is designed so that you can get a close look at the track layout. The next step up is a ride with an instructor during the "Taste of the Track" session. That's a quite a step up from tour laps, requires a helmet but has some added features. You will be fitted with a communicator and talk with an instructor while he/she negotiates the track in their car, pointing out it's features and answering your questions. These two activities together provide a nice introduction to High Performance Driver Education (HPDE), but the real thing is WAY above that. Poke around the website below or visit http://bizcasar.biz/driving/drivers_education.htm and look over the various pages available on the left side of the page.

All, other than tour lap, activities require a helmet (by our National club rules, and by common sense... higher than highway-legal speeds are involved). The helmet requirement is "Snell SA/M2005 or later"... that's a motorcycle or motorsports helmet. We have and will rent helmets that meet this standard but you must secure a helmet when you register. The technical inspection form as well as further details available at <http://pcasar.motorsportreg.com>. You may visit that page and read the details and follow the various links with or without actually signing up.

Please feel free to ask additional questions. We hope you can attend.
