I have a 1992 Q45 and I was wondering how much HP I could gain from these mods:

:straight pipes from headers:12:1 pistons (would this cause any problems):ram-air intake

would any of these upgrades give any noticable HP? And is there anything else I should do?

I would like to keep the engine NA so, forced induction is a no go.

would I have to upgrade anything else if I changed to higher compression pistons?

Ram air works. There are those who will disagree, and that's OK, but it offers a distinct (small, but noticeable) improvement in mind-range acceleration.

Straight pipes? Maybe, but too loud to make sense. We already have a complete bolt-on catback available for the Q.

Headers? Absolutely. Great performance gains, and we have these ready as well.

Pistons? Better have a cheap mechanic, that's a HUGE job on a VH.

do we have final costs and horsepower/torque figures for the BRM exhaust yet?

Anything over 11:1 and chances are you'll have to run race fuel to keep from knocking. 91 octane just wouldn't cut it. I'd go with a 10.8:1 or so in a daily driver.

Greg's addressed the other questions.

Right now Im running what I like to call an unintentional ram air.....

the little cladding around my headlights is missing so the air horn is right behind the grille, uncovered..... My Q sounds just a touch louder and throatier than most do.....

Cna someone give me any performance numbers on the piston upgrade.

Is there anywhere that I can get a cam at?

Where could I put the ram air system?

Also, does NISMO make any parts for Infinitis'?

I need to get a car so I can start doing things to it. :(

That's weird. The concept is interesting, and the issue of lag can simply be dealt with by picking an appropriately sized turbo and piping diameter. My Miatas is cut down as short as we could make it without compromising the turbo install. But I also stuck on a smaller turbo that reaches full boost by 2400 rpm to take advantage of that. Throttle response is very close to stock, while still making 8 psi all the way to the fuel cutoff. A nice balance I think.

I would personally side with the supercharger guys on this, turbos are fun, but a supercharger is better suited to the big Qs. The uber torque from a good supercharger is hard to beat.

That said, I think this could be pretty entertaining on a Q, they certainly do like to rev. Lots of time in boost due to lots of rpm range. Just like my Miata. Now if somebody will just try it out.....

I dont know much about turbos, but it seems to me like the cool, compressed air has a long way to travel. All the way from the back of the car. Not only that, it seems that the aplications are limited to Camaros, Chevy, and Toyota trucks. The concept seems interesting. I'd like to see what the experts have to say.

Interesting indeed.

I will be contacting them for further information. Seems the applications should be relatively universal.

Only issue I see is the dual-exhust setup of the Q.

Regarding that STS turbo thing, I talked with PMQ over AIM and heres the issues I came up with.....

Theres NO ROOM to run a 90ish MM wide intake tube under the car to the TB.. Youd have to custom fabricate something weird shaped that woudl then size back to normal.....

I haven't been completely underneath a Q yet, but that would certainly stick a fork in that idea. Too many cars have too little space to play with now. I miss my old beasties.

To solve the space issue, it is possible to split the charge pipe into a few smaller pipes, run them through the tight spaces, then rejoin them close the the throttle body.

Would this work?
